can anyone help with these 2 math problems?

find the next number in the sequence.
7, 16, 8, 27, 9
choices:

On the first one I was thinking that the relationship between the first, third, and fifth numbers is independent of the relationship between the second, fourth, and missing sixth number. The difference between the second and fourth number is 11 but if you add 11 to 27 you get 38 and that's not an answer.
In the second one, again I think the first, third, and fifth numbers are related (even numbers) and the second, fourth, and sixth are related (odd numbers) leaving choices 1595 and 695. Furthermore I notice in the number 101 there is the same number in the ones and hundreds place, as in the number 1595. But I can't find a connection to the number 7.

I think problem 1 is 40.
8x2 is 16, 9x3 is 27, 10x4 is 40
I'm going 1595 for problem 2
Divide a number by the preceding number, you'll see it ranged between about 3.5 and 4. 1595 gives you the most similar answer. Otherwise I don't see a relationship.

5th number = (4 x 101) - (5 - 1) = 400

No.1 my mind tells me 37 but 40 also makes since
1595 is the second one with the sequencing using the number 4 as the multiplier

You are correct. The relationship for the second problem is you multiply the number by 4 then subtract 1, by 4 then subtract 2, by 4 then subtract 3....and so on.
