Formal rules of logic and mathematical proofs are going to destroy kids if they ever pursue them, after going through what passes for math education today. They need to be introducing the concepts of set theory, probability spaces and similar items if they're going to make these types of problems common.

(7*2) + 2 = 16
(8*3) + 3 = 27
(9*4) + 4 = 40

First one is Nx2+2,N/2; Nx3+3, N/3; so then Nx4+4 would be 9x4=36+4=40.
The second one is x4-1, x4-2, etc...

1st problem looks to be
up 9 back 8 up 19 back 18
so then it would be: up 29 back 28 up 39 back 38.....so on
37 would be next in the sequence for #1

So it looks like each increase becomes X4 ,
2 7 26 101 400 400+1195 = 1595
+5 +19 +75 +299 +(299+896) = 1203
+14 +(14*4)=56 +(56*4)=224 +224*4 = 896
1595 is next in the sequence for #2.
