Camper shell or tonneau for 2019 Tacoma?

I have had both, but am stuck on this decision as I plan to have this truck for at least the next 10 years.
Also, I have a camper top lift in my garage from a truck with a shell I had several years ago.
The tonneau is more useful day-to-day, but the shell us good for carrying more gear and/or dogs.
Camper shells are much more expensive than tonneau covers.
Please respond with advice or smartass comments.

TACO sucks.
F150 rules.
Ram rules.
Chevy rules.
Just getting that out of the way for you.
I really do not care much about trucks.

It won't make the truck an acceptable vehicle for an adult.
It's a toy. Does it really matter?

Tacomas are for white trash and Mexicans.

I also have a 4x4 Silverado. That’s what I keep my truck nuts on.

Utility-wise, camper shell sounds like it would make more sense.. plus you could also use it for, well, camping in if you wanted.
But a tonneau cover would look better IMO.. and since it’s a good-looking truck and you dont want to detract from that, and the fact that it’s cheaper- i’d go tonneau.

A nice color matched camper shell looks really sharp and is WAY more functional/useful. Also, don’t forget, most camper shells don’t weigh that much and are actually easily removed and reinstalled as needed.

Now that the insults are out of the way, I think a color matched ARE shell is the way to go if you intend to keep it for a long time.

Camper shell all day, assuming you get it Grey and can remove it

Hmm.. i didnt really consider removal as an option .. if that’s a possibility , and not overly difficult to do, then that might give the camper shell an edge.

I can only comment on a Tacoma if it is a horrid color, completely debadged, and has ugly aftermarket rims on it. Since you’re not going all Gaston on it, I have to restrain myself. But if I was able to comment I would go color matched camper.

Not so subtle "I just bought a new truck" brag

Tonneau covers are great for keeping stuff well...covered. But when it comes time to remove it you better have a short bed or else it’s a real pain in the arse fishing that shite out. And I don’t really see much point in a short bed.
So I vote camper shell. But really I prefer neither.

Totally. You'll be amazed by how light they are. Some are bolted into the bed (still easy to remove) and some are held to the bed by nothing more that C clamps. Removal is WAY easy. You do need one other person to lift/move, not because of the weight, but just because it is unwieldy to carry it alone. If you have a garage or carport or shed, it's a good option for when you don't need it. Removal or putting it back on is literally a 5 minute operation.
