I'm baffled as well, and it's not like Cameron was unknown to the public either.
He was paraded around the media as this face of innocence who tragically lost his father. Some of the pics have been posted in the thread. Hell, I even remember this board complimenting the kid for how well he composed himself throughout the whole circus.
It's laughable to believe the connection should be ignored.

These were regular people, living regular lives. Now everything bad that happens with them is a trending topic. How many have stopped and helped in anyway to assist this family? Or have you just shared news of their latest tragedy and discussed it with the world? They lost Alton, and have since lost several other males to gun violence and death — now this. Not to mention next week is the hearing for Blane Salamoni to get his job back. That’s a lot to deal with. That the world sits and watches and discusses.
