They seemed to figure out how to cut weight from the cars. The Camaro has gotten to be a real driver's car.
Edit: The newer Cadillacs are supposed to be excellent as well.
Their suspension advancement is probably the most notable.

Why can't Chrysler build a car that turns a corner?
Corners are not the point of the Hellcat. Want to go around corners really fast? Get a Viper ACR, it'll rip your face off.

The Dodge Challenger and Charger don't have a jarring, kidney beating ride. The 1LE is a great package so long as you don't mind a very stiff ride. It's definitely not something you want on a grand tourer which is what the Challenger and Charger fall under.
One lap times are to be taken with a grain of salt as they are done on different days. Some years it rains and other times they even had it repaved. Some tracks favor certain setups. Some like Laguna Seca favor light vehicles with high down force, other prefer high-speed stability. Any trap will favor a car with aggressive tires like Michelin pilot sport cup 2s or the Pirelli trofeo Rs used on a z28.
Having said that I'd love a GTR. And after i win the lottery get the AMS alpha 12x package.

The previous gen Camaros were muscle cars. The current ones are true sports cars that are very thrilling and rewarding to drive hard
That seems to be the direction Chevrolet is going with the Camaro. It's a sports car. The only thing about it that says "muscle car" is the styling.

Part of the muscle car classification is also price. It certainly meets that criteria as well.

THe Camaro has improved 10 fold since the last generation. I want one, badly.
People are going to be really shocked when the new 650hp ZL1 drops this winter.
The Camaro SS 1LE also *supposedly* went around Laguna Seca faster than the new, $100,000 BMW M4 GTS. We will see this week when the Motor Trend Best Driver's Car competition starts this week on youtube.

Was also awesome to see the new Veette GS run within .1 seconds of the GT3RS

Truth. As simple as it is, I was on the arse of a Charger SRT8 the other day and he got down on it coming into an interstate on ramp. It was comical how it couldnt handle the turn. Now, on the straight toll road, it was impressive as it walked me.
I drive a 2016 WRX.

Three different Viper models hold three of the top 15 fastest Lightning Laps since Car & Driver started doing the competition. #15 2014 Viper TA - 2:49.9, #12 2008 Viper ACR - 2:48.6, #3 2016 Viper ACR - 2:44.2. Faster than a ton of cars that cost a ton more.
Not surprised that track focused cars like the Camaro 1LE and Focus RS are almost quicker than a Challenger Hellcat...707 hp doesn't equal good handling. You could probably mod a 2001 Miata to be quicker than a Hellcat on a road course. The Hellcat is a 1/4 mile car when it comes to racing and in reality is a GT car with a stupid amount of power.

6cyl Camaro was kinda fun to drive, but it was no where near as fun as the v8 for obvious reasons. If I wanted a 6cyl sports car, I would actually buy a sports car.

For under $35K, you can buy other sports cars....but according to Car and Driver, they won't be as good of a track car as the Camaro. It is very much a sports car today.

There are pics of it online that someone snapped at a test track through a fence. Supposedly it will be released 2018 I think

I think it's pretty cool that there are such options these days. When I was growing up mustangs and Camaros sucked for the most part. Kids these days have an American car or two to appreciate.

You can find a nice spec used 996 Turbo for 40k. I'd 100% do that instead.
Yeah, American cars are actually pretty good now. I like that.

Soon to be out of production. Again.
Car costs too much and they never offered an automatic. Rightly or wrongly, well heeled Americans mostly want automatics in those types of cars.
