That is also part of the problem. Your candidacy pool is small. Dangerous job for shite pay means you don’t always get the best.

Yes lets face it people want to bitch but dont want to pay for better officers. If the pay went up you would be able to be more selective in hiring

orry man. There was no danger. If cops can shoot in that situation and get away with it, maybe it's time to disarm them.
Again, very difficult to judge that real time. If you recieved a call that a guy had killed someone and was holding hostages, would you not be at least a little anxious? Whether the situation was fabricated or not, you have no way of really knowing. Should the situation have been handled better? Absolutely. Shoukd he face consequences? Of course. But it wasn’t murder. And that cop has to live with the fact that he killed an unarmed man. That is not easy to live with for anyone.

It’s like yelling fire or bomb in a movie theater. The yelling doesn’t actually hurt anyone. But it creates a panicky and dangerous environment that can cause someone to be hurt.
Until you realize one is a trained individual and not just a regular beat cop but actually a SWAT member specially trained for weapons tactics. Should be the last person on the force to have an oops. The other is a panicked mob. These two situations are not similar. And the guy who made the threat should go to prison. But bc he's a repeat offender for a felo ny crime. But not for murder. Cop is to blame for the death. Caller is to blame for exposing a shitty cop.

He shot an unarmed man that was just chilling at home.
Maybe better qualify the initial call and also better evaluate the scene before you bust in with guns blazing? It feels like we just watched the video of the guy getting shot in the hotel hallway where police charged in on level 14 for a relatively low key situation
They can’t treat calls as going to battle and unfortunately they have to accept a higher risk level than “the guy moved a way I didn’t like” when you have a half dozen guys with guns drawn on a dude.

Did you see anything remotely threatening?

Cops start off at 60k+ here and we are 12 short.

Somehow our highly trained professionals are held to a very low threshold due to fear and stress
But our untrained and totally unqualified to deal with the situation citizens are held to the standard of perfection by a lot of people.
I get admiring cops for the work they do but it’s a disservice to never hold them accountable when things go wrong.

Then change the fricking rules of engagement. Unless you physically see a weapon or someone in danger then the buck stops there. I'm so sick of this reaching bullshite. If our own military cannot shoot a fricking enemy in a hostile environment unless fired at and then see the enemy the why the frick is it ok for cops to do. If they honestly thought that were a hostage situation the the area would have been secured and they would have been in the best possible position to reduce casualties. Bad shoot and cop should be finding a new job. Hope the family cripples the PD and they are forced to drive Monte Carlos again instead of 75k Tahoes.

This water needs to be arrested and charged. And if the police were going to shoot the person as soon as he answered the door as they did, why not just be safe and riddle the house with bullets from 30 feet away? At the least the cop needs to be investigated

Seriously? Is that the law as applies to the felony nature of the call? Because that's a shite ton of time to be tied to the one act. If that's not the law I don't see a court buying that at all.

Yep. Sad thing, is we've got tens of thousands of cops trained into this crap.

your use of the term "murder" (in thread title) shows either a lack of understanding of that word, or an agenda, or, at best, laziness.

Not even close. I am harder on cops than you think. It pisses me off when we as citizens hand over that power and it is used indiscriminately by some police.
But I am reasonable too, and I try to get my head around the fricked up shite they have to put up with.
Some of you should consider how awful our cities would be if the cops didn't keep that line between the pieces of shite out there who would stab you in the heart for $40 and YOU.
I actually think the cop in this situation went too far, and either needs some serious discipline and POSSIBLY even some low-end criminal charges. But this was NOT a police murder, despite your agenda-driven thread title.

Definitely murder. I don't know why exceptions should be made when cops kill unarmed citizens because they help protect us from criminals?
Posted on 12/30/17 at 10:48 am to TheOcean
you're just trolling at this point... the circumstances as they are known, would not result in a murder charge on the cop even if the victim was a 17 year old black girl in Berkeley, CA,
