McDonalds will report record profits in a quarter and you will still hold onto the idea that this is directly related to wages.

Every fast food joint in Louisiana raised their prices and our minimum wage hasn’t moved.
They also cashed in on the "we need to charge you to scan your card to cover our costs"
That is the biggest wool over eyes Ive ever seen and its working.

This ends with people not eating out anymore.
I have some coworkers that eat out every meal. I don’t know how people are affording to waste all their income on shitty fast food and overpriced take out.
i have eaten out once since new years while at work, and that was after having to go into the office on a saturday.
i looked at how much i was spending on crap food, and bring leftovers now

You think corporate is paying these wages?

So your perfect world is the owner of the Burger Shack in Modesto should be on the hook for the welfare system? Make it make sense for me.

McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski said on an earnings call Monday that the law is going to have "a wage impact for our California franchisees" and that "I don’t think at this point, we can’t say exactly how much of that is going to work its way through pricing."
"Certainly, there’s going to be some element of that that does need to be worked through with higher pricing," he said.

Probably due to increased automation.

If you cannot pay an employee enough to sustain a life, then that person would die and that job should not exist in the market. That business model is not viable.

Wrong. Min wage employees have roommates, live with mom, etc.
Like they have since the 70s.
All you folks are advocating is for more unemployment. You just dont get it.

Korkstand, if you believe that the welfare state allows businesses to lower the pay of workers, why not abolish welfare? If your theory is correct, then we would see wages rise.
Why aren’t you advocating that?
The problem is that it already exists, and pulling that rug would be too damaging. It must be done in stages.
Welfare "cliffs" need to be eliminated so that earning more actual pay never results in less total income and lower quality of life. Promote self-improvement.
Align the costs of business with the actual business. This is what this thread is about. Yes, industries that rely heavily on low-wage employees will struggle for a while. And yes, some of these people will lose their jobs. This is necessary.
Then begin the process of cutting out entitlements.

Wtf are you talking about? How in the world is it the responsibility of a restaurant owner to make sure his employees "survive"?
Pay attention: a business owner's job is to run a business - not be a social worker.

Its not a business owners job to be a social worker. The cost of living is on your government.
Your government is causing this crisis with monetary policy, and youre pissed at some business owner.

Do that and you'll see wages and cost of living more closely align.

This poster is so highly misinformed or extremely ignorant. or both. He absolutely doesn't get the fallacy of his argument abd how destructive it will be.
