It’s just that 90% of businesses will be closed, along with social commercial venues.

You sound like a very pleasant and compassionate person. Have you not been to the stores lately? It’s kind of hard to stockpile milk, bread, eggs, produce, meat that A. are completely empty from the shelves B. Expire quickly. C. Do you want a family of 5 buying 2 weeks worth of milk and groceries all at once?

I'm hoping to God that since, at the end of the day, these are politicians that we are dealing with, part of the equation is a cynical bet that they prep everybody for months and months of misery and then look awesome when they cut everybody loose in 2-4 weeks.

People here sorely underestimate how many people in their states, especially in the South, are immunocompromised and considered high risk in this thing. All of “those people” staying home would shut shite down. And likely be done without needed assistance that we’d all get in a larger shutdown.
We’d have major economic issues on either side of this argument. There’s no winners in this economically no matter how you go. I don’t get how people don’t understand that.
