The only difference is if you're in California, they're going to lock your arse up if you can't follow some pretty basic guidelines to get everyone on the other side of this sooner rather than later.

I don't know what's more terrifying: that you actually believe that or that you seem kind of giddy about the prospect.

Is this gonna be like the SF Shelter in Place in which people can pretty much move around freely and every business that people need (food, drugs, etc) is open for business?

Yes.

It’s just that 90% of businesses will be closed, along with social commercial venues.

You aren’t confined to home, just recommended to be there....with most of your reasons to leave it regularly taken away.

How do they plan to enforce it?

Los Angeles mayor said they will pull business licenses for non essential businesses

Eta: For businesses that refuse to close

They are pulling occupancy licenses here. That means power cut off

I’m talking enforcing it on an individual

You sound like a very pleasant and compassionate person. Have you not been to the stores lately? It’s kind of hard to stockpile milk, bread, eggs, produce, meat that A. are completely empty from the shelves B. Expire quickly. C. Do you want a family of 5 buying 2 weeks worth of milk and groceries all at once?

They should evaluate their own risk and stay home then.

We shouldn’t crash the economy and bankrupt businesses and cripple the middle and lower classes over this.

I agree. If you can work from home do so for a few weeks. If you can't, go in and take certain precautions.

People on the OT seem to be underestimating how quickly many people and small businesses will go completely under if these conditions persist.

Absolutely. These shutdowns are going to destroy a large number of hard working families and businessmen. Should this go beyond a few weeks, it will be disasterous.

So...is a car dealership's service department considered an essential work place?

I'm hoping to God that since, at the end of the day, these are politicians that we are dealing with, part of the equation is a cynical bet that they prep everybody for months and months of misery and then look awesome when they cut everybody loose in 2-4 weeks.

I don't care if you are a solid red good old boy card carrying member of the NRA from the hills or a bright blue granola munching tree hugging Bernie Bro from Portland, if we're sitting here in May doing this shite, you're probably asking questions of your government and moving into "Screw this" mode.

People here sorely underestimate how many people in their states, especially in the South, are immunocompromised and considered high risk in this thing. All of “those people” staying home would shut shite down. And likely be done without needed assistance that we’d all get in a larger shutdown.

We’d have major economic issues on either side of this argument. There’s no winners in this economically no matter how you go. I don’t get how people don’t understand that.
