I'm hoping to God that since, at the end of the day, these are politicians that we are dealing with, part of the equation is a cynical bet that they prep everybody for months and months of misery and then look awesome when they cut everybody loose in 2-4 weeks.

We can argue about the lack of disaster preparedness of the average citizen for sure, but even if you aren't one of them, their collapse will likely bring financial hardship on your business as well.

$1000 from the government won't keep your average family of 4 afloat for long. This will hurt banks, auto manufacturers, insurance, hospitals, plumbers etc.

The impact will be far greater than bartender Joe at Superior Grill if it drags on for very long.

Maybe I'm finally old enough to have lived through a few decent downturns now. I worked for a big financial company in 2008. 25% of our offices got laid off, including people that knew how to code.

Probably not to that extent. They were the energy sector of 2020 in 2008. The shitty consequences just might shift from one industry to another though.

Many banks will take a hit if huge numbers of small businesses and consumers fold. People that have a household income of 60k have mortgages, auto loans and credit cards in most of the country.

Most people don’t understand how thin the margins can be...even for mega corporations. A month of no revenue can cripple a large percentage of the businesses in this country.

I don't think that a lot of people that weren't married or financially independent by then understand that their business analyst or CPA job might have a ton of dependencies on the local McDonald's franchises. It's all a domino effect.
