“My very first Comic Con, some people didn’t stand in my line because I was Black,” McLaughlin said in a video tweeted by @spideychalamet.

“Some people told me, ‘I didn’t wanna be in your line because you were mean to [Millie Bobby Brown‘s character] Eleven.’ Even now, some people don’t follow me, don’t support me because I’m Black.”

“You’re like, ‘Why do I have the least amount of followers? I’m on the same show as everybody from Season 1.’ But then my parents had to be like, ‘It’s a sad truth, but it’s because you’re the Black child on the show.’”

He still has 1.5M followers

Parents should be ashamed for teaching him to think like this.

So the only “evidence” he has doesn’t match what he or his parents are saying. Victim mentality.

Coincidentally, total number of black people with both parents:

Eleven.

So is it because he's black or becuase his character was mean to the main character?

He quite literally says what they told him and then denies that's the reason. Makes no sense

The only evidence he gave in the article was a girl didn’t want to be in his line because his character was mean to Eleven on the show and he has less twitter followers.

Jack Gleeson should probably have a chat with him about treatment from fans.

It’s 2022 not 1962, stop trying to virtue signal from 60 years ago. You are doing more, and making more money from that show compared to most people in this country.

besides Millie Bobby Brown and Steve he’s probably the most popular person on the show. His parents are FOS.

Motherfricker circa 1982 I, a country kid who’d never been in a school setting with a black person, stood in line and got Todd Bridges (Diffrent Strokes) autograph and posed for a picture at the World of Wheels in New Orleans.

If you’re looking for racism you will find it 100% of the time.

I like him on the show more than Mike and Will.
