I’m still using my HP 48 and love it, but I’m planning on taking an arctic engineering class soon and since I have a few gift cards I thought I’d upgrade. Just curious what those of you currently in school are using.

I’ve accumulated several over the years (Physics undergrad, currently in grad) and while I have the latest, I’d suggest that you only get the ti-86. Anything higher than that and you run the significant chance of it not being allowed ... don’t want you to waste your gift cards.

ETA- This is assuming that graphing calculators are even allowed; they may not be.

You really don’t need a calculator for engineering courses. Just round and show your work. Knowing the right process is what they’ll look for.

Get a TI 89 and learn how to use it. They are powerful tools.

Alot of engineering classes do not allow programmable calculators anymore. The TI 36x Pro is awesome and has all the functions you'd need for engineering

I got one of those for Christmas and I’m an engineer.in his mid-forties. Graphing calculators are too big and I have MathCad if I need something powerful.

I "upgraded" to the HP50 a few years ago when my 48 started giving me problems (like running thru batteries in about 3 days). I don't like it very much. Looks like it isn't even made anymore either. I've been using RPN for so long I get all screwed up with the algebraic ones. Looks like they're trying to kill off us dinosaurs.
