I'm a Dish Network customer.

Just want an additional receiver for my guest bedroom. The rep tried to tell me that it was $7 a month but because they were giving me "such a tremendous discount" on the added service that I would have to sign another two year service agreement right then. The two year service agreement does not extend my price lock of which I am enjoying my last 14 months.

Then he said that I could have the additional receiver for a $50 fee plus the the $7 a month fee if I did not sign a new service agreement.

There is a $95 installation fee. I explained that I only needed a tech for the install in order to run the cable into the room and asked if they had a wireless option. They do have wireless receivers; however, the wireless receivers require a special access point which is required to be installed by the technician. Either way, I have to pay $95 to have an additional receiver connected.

Also, at the time, I asked why I did not receive the Hopper 3 when I signed on with Dish. I figured since I would have to have a tech visit my house, I could possibly have him install the Hopper 3 as well. The rep said it was based on "qualifications," but was not able to explain what the qualifications were. If I want to have the Hopper 3 at this point, I have to pay a $115 upgrade fee.

That's just insane. I purchased Dish Network in 2017, and the installer gave me old tech. I should not have to pay an upgrade fee when I was not provided what the company advertises when trying to sell you on purchasing their service.

I pay $40 a month for 85/mb download speeds. It’s suppose to be 100 but it’s typically between 80-85. No contract

Seems ok to me?

Spectrum is pretty bad at treating existing customers.

Like this is the only industry where it is okay to treat repeat customers like shite.

A few years ago when I had Direct TV I wanted all of my equipment upgraded to HD; at the time they were giving new subscribers new HD equipment. So they person on the phone said it would be $500 + install + taxes and 2 more years on the contract. So I said "if I'm a new subscriber you'll give me all of this for nothing but since I've been with you for 7 yrs. you want me to pay for it?" Silence, then "I'll be right back". Their next offer was "we'll give you the equipment but install is $99 & 2 more years". I said "NO". Their next shot across the bow was "OK, free equipment, and $49 for install and no contract extension" so I said go ahead.

Don't let companies push you around

You are responsible for the service that you sign up for and receive. If you didn't want what was offered, you shouldn't have accepted.

You aren't "owed" an upgrade for free. Now, given the competitive environment of cable/satellite service, you very well may be able to accomplish that.

But, feeling put out because you agreed to something you now wish you didn't agree to is a you problem.

Furthermore, complaining about a $95 installation fee when the tech needs to run a cable is crazy to me. That seems like a reasonable charge and would meet my expectations.

I mean, they had to change their brand because Charter was viewed as one of the worst companies in the country.

Threaten to switch to directv

I’m currently getting 100mb internet with spectrum for $44.99 after tax. No contract.

I’m also getting $20 off my directv bill plus all movie channels for a year. No contract here either.

We have Xfinity by Comcast. Our bill is $119/month but just one X1 box with DVR and HD and hundreds of channels, and internet with speeds of 150 mbps and wifi at box is 174 mbps and around 90 mbps 40' away.

I have tried cable, dish, directv, and streaming. I have finally figured out that the best option is switching between dish and directv every 2 years. They don’t give a shite about your loyalty. You’ll never get the same deal as an existing customer that a new customer will get. You just need to suck it up and make the switch every 2 years.

It's like buying a hypthetical iphone off the internet today and receiving an iphone 5. You agreed to buy an iphone, were not given any option to change the kind of "iphone" you were purchasing.

When you end up with is an iphone but it's an iPhone from several years ago.

It's the same concept here. If the work order just says "Hopper Installation," why am I expecting to receive anything but the current iteration of the Hopper receiver?

It's honestly not a huge deal because I don't really use DVR at all. It's mostly just the fact that the Hopper 3 has Youtube built in and in theory has better picture quality. I have not been a fan of the image quality of Dish Network. I just thought I would have them swap out receivers in the event that a tech has to come.

Now the part about the installation fee. I'm mostly annoyed that they have a wireless option but that they refuse to ship the access point (why do you even need a separate access point specifically for this?) with the receiver and thus require that a technician install the wireless receiver. Either way, I'm still paying $95, so the wireless option is just as inconvenient for me beyond a lack of a need to drill a hole in my bedroom wall.
