My grandparents house is only a couple miles from Fryar DZ in Ft. Mitchell. Used to sit on the porch and watch the 17s and 130s fly over (and over and over....) then drop the troops.

Well that is one posters opinion. Flying in those damn jump seats felt like punishment.
Upstairs on a C-5 however was a different story.

Where did you see the C-17? Love those birds and especially the 437th out of Charleston SC. Those boys flew my Det at times!

12 lifts in one day. 600+ jumpers and a personal record for me.
That's pretty good. I did 9 lifts in a day and more than 1200 in 3 days. Gotta love 19 seconds of GL time and if you've got a good crew, close the doors and land a straight in for the next lift.

It looked like he was landing a C17 like a helicopter.
think they call it putting the pig on the table or dance floor or something like that, pitch indicator on the fpv, or something like that, minimizes exposure

saw one stay airborne while flying 67 mph (clocked by an LSP trooper during a Barksdale airshow).
Isn't the speed limit 60 mph on I-20 right there at Barksdale?
I'm surprised that fricker didn't light that plane up and try to give the pilot a ticket.

Loads that can get the platforms in and doors closed quickly and a solid engineer are must haves for that straight in from Fryar to 33.
It's fun watching the before landing checklist get called in the flare on the first few lifts and slowly backing it up to about a 3/4 mile final as everybody hits their stride.

You should be in one during a combat landing. Wild ride.

Never flew with an engineer there. Fly with them now occasionally.

Was roofing a house close to North Ft. Polk just a few miles from the drop zone and one was lumbering around not very high, didn't seem like he was doing 100mph. It and all the blackhawks and the like flying around felt good to be in America.
