often store motion sensing doors can set them off, plus in most cases by the time it goes off you are within visual sight line of the radar gun so its 50/50 he gets you or the car next to you. bottom line is, save your money, they dont work as good as people think they do at giving you time to slow down.
Sounds like its been 30+ years since you've tried even a cheap model. Technology has vastly improved since 1978.

For mainly highway driving .....Escort Redline (dual antenna)
For city with some highway ...Escort Passport 360 (redlight camera alerts)
I have had both...the Redline is the real deal, but I since got a new 360, and has directional radar, which is nice on the Causeway as I can tell if he is coming up from behind or ahead of me.
I do not use the city red light camera functions—only use mine for highway mode.
The latest generations can learn “false positives”, such as radar from another vehicle’s adaptive cruise control system. My original Redline didn’t do this, and it was going off all the time when it encountered cars using active cruise control. Hence the move to a newer one—the 360...i very rarely get false alerts with it. It is pretty damn good.
I drive 40k a year on interstates.

Nope. I can follow directions. I understand the rules of the road. Maybe you need to calm down. Or wake up 10 minutes earlier. You'll get there Dale. Promise.
Speeding is stupid, on a 50 mile trip the difference in time between 85 MPH, and 70 MPH is 6 1/2 minutes, and that's the best possible case. I cant count the number of times I have had cars pass me doing well over the limit and 20 miles down the road I exit and roll up behind them at the off ramp traffic light, more gas, stress, and less safety margin all to gain nothing in time.

Yep. Only on super long road trips through nowhere is it worth it

Thanks. I wondered what was doing this to my Escort 9500i, I read in a forum that some rear cams in newer cars will also create falses but I bet that was wrong information.

Which is it?

Likewise, if you pass the same signal in the same location multiple times, a good detector will store that location and ignore it in the future.
Between Sunset and Opelousas on I-49 is a hospital and it would emit a signal that set off radar detectors. So it got to a point where people would just assume it was the hospital. Then the state police would hide behind the overpass and pop people who thought they knew.

What type of radar detector should I get and where should I buy it?
I was just talking to a salesman I deal with a couple of days ago about his radar detector he has in his truck. He was quite pleased with it. It was a Uniden

I have a V1 and a jammer. Most cops on the interstate use instant-on radar. Can't do anything about that. When the departments budget them, they use lasers. I block those.
That being said, I just turn mine off in the city. Cops here DGAF about speeding unless it's blatant and reckless.
Not a lot of people talk on CB radios anymore, but some do. It is sort of helpful. Waze is only as good as the people using it. There are a whole lot of assholes that just pass up cops without marking them

This is why the V1 has a bogey counter. They still try to hide there.

Finally a guy that knows his stuff! All correct. No detector made can defeat instant on trigger radar or Laser (Lidar). If the radar/Lidar unit is not emitting a signal, it’s impossible to detect it! Use other cars to block your signature, and hopefully they will attempt to get the car in front of you, thus providing you the opportunity to detect them. I use a valentine 1. They also make laser jammers. Research and educate yourself. If you use this equipment it will allow you to drive free of most tickets. You will get some, make no mistake, but they will be few and far between. They are very effective when you know how to use them

What type of hammer do you use Hammer? I have been contemplating one myself. They are not too heavy on Lidar where I am at but it’s slowly creeping in
Posted on 9/26/18 at 7:46 pm to Hammertime
All radars have instant on....depending on models ofcourse. There are two functions On/Standby and another for LOCK....which is useless cause no one locks it. But you can if you want, it just flashes the locked speed
The officer will not come off standby until he visually identifies a speeder so he does not give up his position. When he does, clicks on, on remote and it’s done. This is ofcourse if he has clear tone and no other larger objects near your. Laser or lidar is completely different. Scope, crosshairs on your grill, trigger squeeze, DONE.
Only hope with a detector is you pick up another vehicle he is checking to alert you of his presence.

What interstate are you frequenting? Because that is not at all the case where I’ve been driving for the past 5 years. I almost never pass a cop on the interstate that I was not alerted to well in advance.

Louisiana State Troopers are very good at instant on. They usually do it while slow rolling in the opposite direction then cut the median and chase you down. They are the only ones I see doing it though. Local cops just run with their guns on at all times.

Has it worked ok for you? Contemplating one myself.
Posted on 9/26/18 at 11:03 pm to Arbengal
Has definitely saved me money. They're expensive though.
I got hit probably five times going through South Carolina a few years back. Didn't know they were illegal there, but I switch it off as soon as I slow down, so I guess the cops didn't get too suspicious
