When you close a line of credit it hits you. It’s not the dealership or loan. It’s the equation that equifax and other credit score company’s measure your credit rating.

I don't understand the credit game at all.

It costs money to service loans whether just a credit card, mortgage, whatever. When you're not paying interest, like others have said, you are costing them so it's designed to avoid that.

It’s good for your credit score to carry some balances and show you are a responsible borrower.

True but if you already have a 800-850 credit score it's really a non-issue.

Wife and I bought a new car last month. Financed it to get the dealer discounts. Paid it off in full the week after.

This. I have biught regularly from a good friend over the years. If the best offer/deal involves financing I do and pay it off on the first note. If not I pay cash. I have family do the same at different dealerships im where we live. Cash is never a problem though.

Credit score drops like a rock each time

What is drops like a rock mean? I had a line of credit fall off of my report and my score dropped 8 points, which is completely negligible.

Yep, just paid off my wife's car 2 years early and my score dropped from 810 to 775.

When you’re applying for more credit, it doesn’t matter if your score is 775 or 810.

My wife didn't check her credit for like 10 years and I've always handled the finances. She was stunned when she downloaded Credit Karma and found out she had an 825 credit score.

She was equally disappointed when she went to buy a new car and discovered that she got the same rate as someone with a 730

Just tell him you work at a bank and he will get really quiet really quick.

They definitely get quite when my wife informs them she’s in Commercial Finance.

Buying a vehicle is not overly complicated. You always have the advantage when buying a new or used vehicle when you’re willing to walk out. Buy on your terms and conditions, not theirs. It’s satisfying to shake the sales person’s hand and then walk away.

Credit is great but it shouldn't be required to purchase something. If I want to buy a new car outright I should be able to do so.

Lock in with the seller on price BEFORE you go to the financing department. Never bring up that you are paying cash until the very end. Don’t let them try to mix the two. I bought cash a year ago. They can’t force you to finance, and the finance department is going to piss off a lot of sellers if you walk out.
