Got pre approval from my bank already. Should I wait to the very end of this month for end of the year deal or will dealers be ready now to give me a good deal? I kind of would like to get a new vehicle this weekend because I have two teens using my truck now to go to jobs they just started. Just give them my old ride and have my own non sharing vehicle again.

Wait until March or April when they get 2018 models in and discount 2017s if you're set on a new vehicle.

Buy the most expensive one. This is the OT. Nothing else matters.

Nothing better than a 10 year car note. Might as well buy the most expensive car possible

Buy an old junker. That way when Obama starts WWIII and the EMPs go off your car will work.

Be willing to travel if you reallly want the best deal. Decide what color, options, etc. that you want and find every available car within whatever radius you'll travel (either on sites like cargurus or the manufacturer's site). Simply call or email each dealer and ask for their best deal, then start playing them against each other. You'll have each dealer's best price within a day or two. I've bought my last few cars this way. Dealers will slow-play you if you're only shopping one dealer or just shopping local. Rarely are the best deals found locally.

Not all 2018 models come out in the Spring. A manufacturer will come out with the new year model of each of their models throughput the year...

OP, waiting until the end of any month will get you the best deal. Also, getting a model when the new model comes out will ensure there is more incentive money on that model. I'm in the industry. What brand you looking at? I could probably hook you up with a salesman

There's a guy on here who posted a new car buying guide and step by step instructions.

Maybe someone can link it for you.

Since you are preapproved for a loan, you are golden!

When you shop for a car, tell the salesman as little as possible!

Separate it into 2 areas: 1. Find the vehicle you want and 2. Financing.

Do not discuss financing until you select a vehicle.

Dealers make more money on financing than they do on the sale of the car! If they think they can finance the vehicle, they will lower the price of the vehicle. If they know you have financing somewhere else, they will not lower the price of the vehicle.

Be firm in these rules. The sales people are experts at pulling info out of you.

Research rebates and special dealer financing before going to shop.

Auto dealers are leeches and will slip stuff on the contract after you sign it.

Bank financing lets you see the final contract before you sign it.

Why buy a new car for 2 teens to drive. All they are going to do is wreck it and drive the shite out of it.

Please buy a used car for the first year or two!!!

I remember once a LONG time ago being told to test drive, pick out what you want and walk away. Then at the end of the month on a rainy day hopefully when sales aren't being really done as who wants to go out and test in the rain, go back in and make the deal.

I have NO clue if this works. Never tried it lol.

eta go to money board and search "will cover car buying" or something along those lines. lots of good info.

I love these hard asses that think jewing car dealers down a thousand dollars is the way to do business. Cheap bastards..IMO a fair deal is when you like the product, like the person you're doing business with and get a good discount. frick trying to drive for hours to save a grand for a vehicle you're going to keep for a few years, unless you're poor.

I'd rather build a relationship with someone that will give me service after the sale and stimulate my local economy than save a little money. The car industry is the only retail industry where people feel the retailer shouldn't make any money.

Wait until at least halfway through college to reward a good kid with a new car.
