Need some pics of that badboy.

I'll give you that one of the downsides of having kids is not having fun cars like that right now So I need to live vicariously.

Bought a new vehicle from John Eagle Honda in Houston in 2006. Called around and they gave me the best deal. Saved several thousand over all the Local yocals. They picked me up at the airport and I was driving home in a couple hours. They even added the accessories before I arrived.

Bought my next new vehicle (2017) from Katy Honda (Houston Suburb) on line. Emails back and forth to a salesman and I sent him pictures of my trade-in. We agreed on pricing and I drove there the next day. I was driving home in 2 hrs.

My experience is you can save thousands by buying out of state. They give you a temporary tag and either give you the paper work or mail it to your local DMV where you pay the local TT&L. Dealers in Louisiana seem just too snooty to me and want way too much.

Dealers in Houston and DFW deal with LA people regularly. They will charge you LA sales tax. Not really a big deal to deal with them. My last 2 vehicles bought in TX.

Well you'd have to be foolish to pass up deals like this

I walked out the door only spending $50,000

Group of acquaintances were all saying they buy their cars out of state because pricing is much better. This has nothing to do with taxes or trying to avoid paying full tax, they're talking about the sales price of the vehicle. They attributed the lower prices basically to inventory and that LA dealerships generally don't have the volume that larger out of state dealerships have.

Your thoughts or experiences?

I know you said new cars, but I bought a car about 10yrs ago in Dallas that was less than a year old but was still classified as "used". The price was about 4.5k less than what I found for the same car (volvo S40) in Louisiana. I think some of it boils down to the model of car. If it's a model that is super popular in a certain area there will be a lot of supply and more dealerships trying to get sales. I've heard from multiple people that TX is a great place to buy trucks for example.

Did this for 4 of my last 5 cars in the last 5 years.
My process is:
Go on cargurus and find every dealer within 500 miles with the car I want
Email each dealer for price (and trade-in value on my current car)
Play each dealer against each other for a couple days
Go pick up my car.

Deals were up to $6,000 better than local dealers, and I’ve never had them try to add anything on or change a trade-in deal. And it’s always email or text so I have every conversation in writing.

Saved about $6k on a car in Dallas. Kind of a pain in the arse but nice to save a little coin.

I've bought a few used out of state.

Drive local to see what you like.

Find a dealer in Texas that will deliver. I've had then drive a used vehicle from out of state four hours away twice.

You save cash and they come here.

I didn't ask where your car was manufactured. I specifically asked if anyone has bought a car from an out of state dealership and what their experience was like. Not sure what you're talking about "cant handle generalized answers".

Good to know. You think the cargurus referral had anything to do with it?

Also, 5 cars in 5 years?

It's actually illegal and it hurts local businesses when you buy from out of state

It usually just comes down to volume. If a local dealer has 4 of a particular model, and a dealer in Atlanta has 48 of the same car on the lot, it’s a no brainer.
And yeah, I don’t keep cars very long. I get easily distracted by new shiny things.

At first I thought they wouldn’t really be up front about prices online, but they are. Way less BS because they don’t have you there in person to string you along.

Bought my truck in Houston. Just kept exchanging emails until I got the price I wanted. Saved over $4k.

Historically, they'd never give a price out over the phone. The internet has definitely changed that approach.

Look in Texas. Houston Dallas or San Antonio. Get your best price over the internet. Go to your local dealer and give him the opportunity to beat your price. Actually had Hixson beat a price on last truck I bought. Have bought five vehicles over the internet. Usually cheaper than the locals.

bought an 18 F150 out of state yesterday

idk if pricing was any better but they were competitive and matched the lowest price i had elsewhere. they also beat the financing i had through penfed and gave me the trade in value i wanted

bring knowledge and numbers to the table, if they dont hit what you want, walk
