they did, based on the pic I posted
I was responding generally. I don't dispute original site layout drove initial building planning, most significantly the shape. But they didn't build on that site and the building could have been any shape (with revisions not made, of course).
As well as the low profile reasons given. Buildings are not allowed to cast a shadow on the Washington Monument, at least within D.C. - I would assume any government building in the surrounding area would be unofficially bound by the same restriction. There was a steel shortage (because we were building battleships, aircraft carriers and tanks).
But, the shape became a strength, not a weakness. What would we call it? DOD HQ?

So explain to me the giant ball of fire prior to the wings (where the fuel and engines are) hitting the building.

It hit the ground first.

Fun fact, construction on the pentagon began on September 11, 1941. The attack happened exactly 60 years later.
Also, the guy responsible for building, then Colonel Leslie Groves, would supervise construction from August 1941 through September 1942 before moving on to be the military leader of something called "The Manhattan Project."

Ok
Here’s your original post:
quote:
reference the landing gear doing most of the damage to the walls, not the fuselages
But here’s what the article you just linked says:
quote:
When American Airlines Flight 77 hit the Pentagon's exterior wall, Ring E, it created a hole approximately 75 ft. wide, according to the ASCE Pentagon Building Performance Report.
But here’s the sentence you’re using to support your argument that the landing gear did most of the damage:
quote:
The tidy hole in Ring C was 12 ft. wide—not 16 ft. ASCE concludes it was made by the jet's landing gear, not by the fuselage.
75 > 12

The pentagon shape was kept because a complete redesign would’ve been too expensive. This was built because of the breakout of WWII to get the DOD in one place and not scattered around DC. They slightly modified it to be an actual pentagon and not the odd shape of the other plot of land.

It is funny people think airplanes are build like battering rams. They dont realize they are made out of lightweight aluminum.

The funniest part is the fella in this thread arguing with a 777 pilot about the damage.

The same reason there is almost no live footage of the first plane hitting the WTC.

I’m not taking one side or the other in this discussion, but being a pilot doesn’t make him an expert in the damage caused at the pentagon.

I'm not arguing the damage, I'm simply citing sources that show the damage was caused by other parts of the plane...Like someone else posted, too many people are looking at the plane as a giant battering ram which it was not
