As you age it’s very important to strength train. You should lift weights a few times a week.

Have any of y’all busted up concrete using a jackhammer?

Years ago when I was about 22, I was working for Texaco Oil and a storm came through and damaged many tank batteries. We had to take jackhammers and break up the remaining concrete. Since the tank batteries were about 10 feet above the water, we had to tie off the jackhammer, because once it busted through the concrete, the jackhammer wanted to fall into the water. It felt like my wrists were sprained afterwards.

4' wide concrete apron around the pool took 2 solid days of driving the hammer around.... most was 5" thick. Only the 20'x30' pad from the porch was reinforced with mesh.

LONG days and sore from head to toe, but good honest work (at 58 no less)

I’ve done a shitload of it. It isn’t that bad. Crack it along a few points. Lift it up with a front-end loader and drop it and it’ll break along where you jackhammered.

Do the plaque check thing on the ticket. About $150 out of pocket and it shows any and all blockages from what I’m told.

Getting old sucks but beats the alternative. I’m still benching 250 for 8 reps on my last set but when I was a young bull that number was 380.

My elbows and shoulders can’t handle the weight like they used to.

I’ll probably feel like I went water skiing. I remember those days. And it something I want to do again. Although with one hand barely functional I might not be able to hold the rope.

I still have a Cypress Gardens Lil’ Monster wooden slalom ski. It was Christmas present when I was 14.

I tried it that day on the way to the hunting camp. I skied from 70 mile canal down the Intracoastal into the Copasaw all the way past Bluebird Canal. I was blue by that time from the cold but I had ball on my new ski. What a Christmas.

Yes Sir. I’m busting 3000# hardened concrete in a bulk bag. It’s a giant solid chunk. Much different than a slab. Fortunately there is no rebar are wire.

There is some smart folks in this thread. You can tell they know what they ate doing.

Last time was in my 20s. Did both and electric and a compressor package driven.

Hardest part was getting the break started and then you just broke off pieces on the edge.

Being 48 I would imagine it will kill me if I did it again

But will likely find out this fall. House we bought has a few sections of side walk I need to replace……

I used a jackhammer in my '20s working construction. In a metal warehouse building during July.

The crusty old superintendent I think realized we would and could not do this all day without us quitting or passing out from the hard physical work in the heat.he put me and my fellow laborer on a work for thirty minutes, break for fifteen minutes when we could go outside and get some air and drench ourselves in some cool water.

For the three or four days we did the jackhammering, he even allowed us to have lunch in the air-conditioned construction office trailer, as we were normally forbidden to even enter the trailer.

If I had to do the same thing today, it would kill me.

Was working on a huge concrete pour on an AFB in a weapons storage facility during summer while in college. It was a security ordeal to get in or out. One of the trucks broke the axle that drove the mixer as it was in line for the pour. The concrete set up because there was no place to go and no immediate assistance. 100 degrees outside. They had to rotate guys on the jackhammers inside the mixer about every 5-10 minutes for a couple of days while mechanics were fixing the truck to get it out of there. They were paid good but that was some tough stuff.

Yes I've used a jackhammer and it's work. I was completely worn out and sore from head to toe.
