And if louisiana is smart they will pass this law so texas has one more reason to not legalize gambling. Say what you want, but lots of tax dollars come into louisiana via shitport and lake chuck casinos from texas gamblers

It's on a pilings on the other side of the levee to meet the "over the water" requirement. It's the first Casino built in Baton Rouge after the state removed the requirement that they actually move around - so while it is not a boat that can cruise around, it is over water.
Same setup as the Tunica Casinos.

I just looked at the satellite images. It's literally sitting in (what i assume is man made) a pond basically the same size and shape as the casino. It made me laugh out loud. What a stupid law.
ETA: The casino portion that is. Everything else is on land. Also why was this ever a thing in the first place? Is there some moral benefit to not having a brick and mortar building or something?

Insanity.
I'm okay with forcing them to locate in downtown areas or adjacent to the river where they want tourists to visit, but having them on the other side of the levee just because is kind of pointless.

Initially it had to be a boat and maintain a cruise schedule.
Belle of Baton Rouge and Casino Rouge used to drive around the river, as gaming wasn't technically legal on land. That's why The Belle is a cramped, multi level boat built on top of a barge platform.
They removed the requirement that they actually operate a cruise schedule, and the newer casinos got much nicer (L'auberge). Having them locate a much more flexible, more open casino floor right next to the hotels, restaurants, and parking would probably enable nicer properties.
It would probably be better for both revenue and tourism if Casinos like The Belle were allowed to move to a space actually designed to be a Casino on land.

New Orleans has always gotten special treatment.
The real fun history lesson is to explore how the casino gaming licenses were awarded to begin with. Let's just say it was a busy decade for the FBI field offices in Baton Rouge and New Orleans when that happened.

I was in middle school, but i remember my dad talking about "how in the hell did shreveport get 5 casino licenses!?!" That was 1/3 of the state total, iirc.

hell, Texans are the majority at Cushota in Kinder. LB and the Nugget in LC look like Cancun (during the summer) with all the (Texas) Mexicans staying there.

You guys in Louisiana really just have said "how can we frick up legal gaming and line our pockets". Seriously, gaming in Louisiana shows the level of education and progress this state has.
