Not at all. I was talking to a guy who runs a small bar. They are allowed to have up to 3 poker machines in the bar. He told me that each machine is good for about $60k annually. I thought that number was kind of high for a small bar, but then I realized, the several times I have gone there, there is never an open seat on any of the machines. If there are 4 people in the bar, 3 of them are playing video poker.
The truck stop I was referring to, when they first opened they started selling gas at cost, but I think there was some legal action taken by other gas stations that prevented them from selling at cost. Gas stations make a few pennies a gallon, on gas. But you are right, this place is a casino (video poker only) that sells gas. The casino part is open 24/7, but the convenience store and restaurant closes from.. something like 11PM-5AM..
I remember when casinos were first approved in Louisiana. They sold the public by saying all the revenue from casinos would go straight to education. And well.. That didn't happen.

I distinctly remember the LA Lottery being sold to the voting public in this manner. Most voters assumed that after expenses, all the remaining lottery revenue would go to education, IN ADDITION TO WHATEVER BUDGET DOLLARS WERE ALLOCATED.
WRONG!!! That's where the public lost to a legislative shell game. Instead of funding education out of the General Fund, they used the lottery dollars and could say lottery money went to education. And it did. However, it was INSTEAD of, rather than IN ADDITION to.

Louisiana needs to work on their stance against "online gambling" and sports books first. That to me is a bigger crock of shite than having to be over water.

Actually, the placing of wagers in a casino in the US is technically "gaming" and not "gambling."
Some OT attorneys can spell out the difference, but it is the same to you and me.
Some where there is a federal statue outlawing gambling, but if you call it gaming it is different. Hence the reason why the state board in Louisiana is called the "Louisiana Gaming Control Board."
