I don't give a shite how long ago it was. He said it now he has to deal with whatever comes with it. Just like anyone else in the world. The rules don't change for this guy just because he did something commendable.

He can't. It's up to you to provide evidence of another person's innocence or otherwise. He will just spout bullshite with some racist talking point and it's up to you to do the work to defend or attack.
