Building up a good supply of guns and ammo just in case?

Does building up a supply of guns and ammo need to be thought of in the same way as cash, savings, stocks, 401K, etc?

ATF? FBI? Which one is it? I tossed all my guns in the marsh once Biden was elected

It’s always good to be ready for the unexpected but I mainly just collect and enjoy shooting, not so much a prepper.
But if shite were to go down I’d have enough guns and ammo for a while.

In an economic crash, ammo becomes currency

In that situation, what’s worth more to you, 3 1oz gold coins or 300 rounds of 308? What would an ar15 with 250 rounds be worth?
I’m not trading anything for gold coins.

I used to build up a stash but every time I do the guns and ammo get lost in a boating accident

If civil war breaks out... I am shooting antifa with a Luger, just out of spite.

Won’t do any good - roving bands of thugs 10,000’s deep looking for food will over run you unless you are in a militia.

I have an ample supply of each…

I wish I could afford it.

Before you ever go through hundreds of rounds of ammo in a defensive situation, you’ll likely be dead.
You could probably drink a lot of coffee and still be alive.

All of my weapons were lost when my bass boat capsized

The only way the economy crashes to the point that ammo becomes legitimate currency is in the event of nuclear war, in which you’d probably be dead within days or (at most) weeks anyway.

I do it by buying One box a week... Different Ammo and usually what was on sale.
.22
.32
.38.
.380
.9mm
5.56
7.62x39
7.62x54r
.303
8mm
12 gauge
20 gauge
One week a box of this, one week a box of that.. Maybe sometimes a couple boxes if it was on sale.
I have like 20 filled ammo cans now of various ammo
