re: Best sprinkler timer?

Posted by jlong4635 on 8/15/26 at 12:22 pm to
I have been doing 15 minutes daily all summer long

Once is starts to cool off I, typically go to 3x/week for 10 or 15 minutes.

Soil type is a big deciding factor as well, a well drained sandy soil can tolerate a good amount of water with no harm to your average turf grasses

Can't go wrong with a rainbird in my opinion. I installed irrigation systems while in college 15 years ago and Rainbird was the go to.

You can add a rain sensor and essentially get all of the same perks as some of the newer more expensive manufacturers, other than the app feature to my knowledge

I have a 6 station rain bird with a sensor, I normally only touch it twice a year to adjust the time.
Thanks for all of the feedback.

I will certainly look into full rut and some of the other suggestions

Days Smokehouse - Wild Game Processing

Posted by jlong4635 on 8/12/26 at 7:52 pm
I'd like the OB opinion on Days Smokehouse in Denham Springs for wild game processing. I am considering bringing a deer or 2 and possibly an elk to them this year.

Aside from the typical smoked sausage and cajun style meats, how are they on the butchering/processing for non smoked meats?
I stayed at Blue Lake Ranch just outside of Durango last year. It is very quiet and relaxing. Kennebec café is not far away and definitely worth a visit.

The fresh cooked breakfast at Blue Lake was very good. It is way off of the beaten path, so plan to bring most everything you need with you other than breakfast.

If you have the money to burn, the random special odds for a general W tag this year was ~25%. Thats darn good odds for a random draw, but cost somewhere around $2,000 I believe.

Otherwise, start building them points and chasing the never ending point creep like Wby recommended.

I drew a general W with 6 points this year in the regular

Tall Ships - NOLA

Posted by jlong4635 on 5/30/26 at 10:23 am
Anyone toured the tall ships yet this weekend? I am considering going tomorrow morning before it gets too crowded, mainly for the USS Kearsage and the USCG Eagle

Curious how the wait times have been.
Fishing was good all over yesterday, we picked up a limit of trout at Breton Island by 8:30. Only had 1 or 2 throwbacks.

Ran to main pass and caught a limit of snapper and headed back to Hopedale at 12:30. Not many days are that productive

Congrats on your PB
Thanks for the info. I have consistently ran across positive reviews for the greenworks. It is now a top contender for me

Dewalt Electric Pressure Washer

Posted by jlong4635 on 3/30/26 at 6:01 pm
I am looking at buying an electric Dewalt pressure washer. Does anyone have real world experience with them? I only intend to use it for small stuff such as washing the vehicles and cleaning up around my garage.

The reviews I find online are kind of a mixed bag. Any real world feedback would be appreciated

Thanks to all for the feedback so far. Hopefully I can get the project done before it gets too hot

Is the general consensus to use a reel mower, or do some of you get by with a conventional mower?

I only plan to put zoysia in front yard and it is very small, so I dont have an issue investing in a good reel mower if needed

One the pup passes I plan to put turf in the back yard

Zoysia

Posted by jlong4635 on 3/16/26 at 12:19 pm
I'd like to hear from the TD lawn experts in regards to Zoysia. My existing yard is a mix of weeds and some St Augustine. I have not had good luck getting the St Aug to thrive. The soil is essentially all sand.

I plan to round up the existing grass/weeds and pull out a few inches of the sandy soil and replace it with some better dirt.

I would like to go back with Zoysia. What's the general feedback from those who have transitioned to it? I have read that it will need to be de-thatched every couple years. Any truth to that?

Located in St. Bernard Parish.
Unless you're fundraising surpasses 10,000, dont even think about making your way on to that stage.

It is an awesome event that I truly strive to support, but it is all about fundraising. I championed a team for a few years and enjoyed the heck out of it, but you gotta have deep pockets to get onto the stage.

European Flights

Posted by jlong4635 on 2/1/26 at 6:03 pm
Im curious what advice the TD has for finding reasonably priced European Flights. I have never had good luck booking flights through 3rd parties, so I prefer to book directly with the airline.

I am looking at prices of flights to either Italy or Paris for vacation later this year and the prices surprised me. My preferred airline is United, but not opposed to branching out.

Just at a glance round trip economy plus flight with United is $2,500/person.

Any advice would be appreciated. I have never traveled outside of the United States
