Despite crowds of children barely able to contain their excitement, Build-A-Bear Workshop halted its first-ever "Pay Your Age" sale on Thursday after chaos and long lines took over stores throughout the U.S. The discount let patrons purchase a furry friend according to how old the child is. Build-A-Bear dubbed it as its "biggest-in-store deal ever."

The company's website says it couldn't allow additional people at its Build-A-Bear Workshop locations due to "crowd and safety concerns."

"We have closed lines in our U.S. stores. We understand some of our Guests are disappointed and we will reach out directly as soon as possible," the update said.

What a shitshow

sale was so successful, it failed

I went to the mall today. The line for that stretched across the mall.

It's not a complete halt to the sale. Simply a temporary paws.

You need to find a cruise ship that doesn't sail out of NOLA.

Just was at mall of acadiana in Lafayette. Asked what the line was about and it was by far not worth standing in that line to save that money. There were people wrapped around to the door outside food court entrance. I'd guess 100-200 people in line...eff that, even worse to stand in a line that long with your kid and everyone else's kid.

I could have told them this was a bad idea. You ever been to a donut shop on free donut day? frickin' yikes. And that's just a donut!

Yeah, I really don't understand how this idea got past the brainstorming room.

I have absolutely zero experience in marketing and retail, but even I could've told you that you'd get swamped to the point of malfunction if you offered the general public a temporary massive discount to what seems to be a fairly popular product.

What really boggles my mind is that BAB is a customized product that takes time to assemble. That kind of product is NOT the kind you'd want to offer a flash sale on. It's not like people can just come in, grab one, and check out.

I'm sure BAB's CMO is having a rough day.
