Nashville is going to be what Atlanta used to be.

A grotesquely overrated Southern city?

...that is until some yokel decides that Huntsville Ala. is where it's at.

Despite what the poli board thinks, I'm a very conservative person, I despise wokeness and leftism, etc. And even I believe Atlanta was at something akin to an all-time peak just 2-3 years ago. Crime was there but managed, Atlanta had a good reputation of largely staying out of the racial unrest you saw elsewhere, our nutjob community was pretty quiet and isolated. We were on a frenzy of new restaurants and breweries and the BeltLine was exploding, lots of new commercial development focused on building community (successfully IMO). It was just really going as well as you could hope. I agree that the mall district of Buckhead was already in decline, but we avoided as much for the tourists/hassle as the crime. There was just a lot more happening in other parts of the city. Even some of the disputes along race/political lines (like the Braves departure) were going fine, Summerhill was a thing, but the Battery was great. Win-win.

It's all come tumbling down very quickly. It's depressing.

Yep. KLB might go down as the worst mayor the city has ever had.

It's sad to see what Buckhead has become. I've lived here for 6 years now and while there was crime, it was worlds better in 2015 than it is now. I still thankfully feel safe in the area I live in, but I keep my head on a swivel if I'm walking home from the bars at night.

There's a certain urban element that has infiltrated the East Andrews bars (normally just 21-23 y/o SEC postgrad crowd) especially with Hide Kitchen and Buckhead Saloon on Sundays. They've started catering to that crowd and the problems they bring are noticeable.

This may be a foreign concept to someone from Bastrop or Madisonville, but Atlanta has a history of problem-solving. Keisha is going away, presumably because she realizes she's in over her head and might not have won an election. Erika Shields (ridiculous police chief) is gone.

I live in Texas, but do you honestly see the current voting population of Atlanta voting in anybody that will fix this?

I’m not asking that as a gotcha question. Bottoms, Garcetti, Cantrell, Lightfoot, and de Blasio all are going to be replaced with more progressive successors. Their voters are not going to self correct.

Something similar happened in Louisville. Anchorage is probably the nicest area in city, and they are their own city. Population of about 2,500 with 10 full cops, a school, a mayor and a city council.

This most likely will fail on the 1 yd line.

St George took a while finally spoilt your can bet Atlanta will figure out way to try and frick buckhead over. And then the media... it will cry racism.

Singer Island tried to break away from Riviera Beach here in Palm Beach County decades ago. It had to be approved by the state legislature and that's where it stalled. Not sure if Georgia is structured the same way.

10 years ago, I would have said "absolutely."

Right now, I guess it's 50/50. I was not at all pleased with the pair of oven-stuffers we sent to the Senate, but at the same time I think Warnock would (hypothetically) be an OK mayor. (Ossoff is worthless; how that man rose to be anything better than a CVS shift manager escapes me.)

I can tell you, it will never happen in New Orleans, Detroit, NYC, Chicago, etc.

This is not New Orleans. We don't have a Pampy Barre or a Sidney Barthelemy sucking us dry. Atlanta will emerge from whatever the frick is going on right now stronger than ever.

No it's not New Orleans, and that's why it should seriously be thinking about keeping its day job.

If those Fortune Companies decide to relocate to more business friendly Texas or elsewhere, and Delta decides to breakup their hub at ATL,...Atlanta's in trouble.

You see, unlike New Orleans and with all its piss stained ills, Atl has no food or music scene (if you want to compare Hip Hop to Jazz, be my guest), history, arquitecture, and a world class port to fall back on.

It has NOTHING to reinvent it self with. It would not "emerge" from anything, and we would watch Atlanta become the Detroit of the South in less than two decades.

It’s cute that some people still think St. George is going to happen

IDK about Jazz in general (pretty broad) but that Dixieland crap they play in New Orleans makes me want to blow my brains out. Yeah, I think Ciara is a little bit more talented and relevant than those cats.

I wish leftists would take a note and split off from the rest of the country. They can go prance around with their mutilated genitalia and rainbow flags and play protest all by themselves in a massive CHAZ somewhere away from the rest of us.

Bottoms barely beat Norwood. Like by 100s of votes. Not that Norwood is a conservative but the idea someone left of Bottoms is definitely going to win is not a forgone conclusion.

Huntsville is full of redneck racists, is devoid of any type of redeeming qualities, and is a shite location. Don't live there. Ever. For any reason. It's absolutely horrible and no one should ever want to move there. Especially if they're from the coasts.

I couldn’t care less, just get a kick out of rubes thinking they’ll get their whites-only city and school.

When people from Austin or Dallas ask me about my town I tell them the KKK runs rampant and has multiple spots on the city council and we were a 90% Trump town and there is absolutely nothing fun to do and there’s nothing but chain restaurants.

None of which are remotely true, but it would be easy to think that with our I35 footprint (there’s still a Trump billboard on 35) but I would rather big city folk think I live in a racist shithole than move here.
