Wonder if they will be called racist? Like St. George who was never part of Baton Rouge, but just wanted to incorporate so they could start their own school system (like they were told by the city who is now suing them for doing what that city told them they had to do.)

Catchy tune. I like it.

It's amazing no one ever discusses the racial element of almost all-black portions of Atlanta demanding a for-us-by-us governance...while also demanding that white-majority areas pay for said governance.
This is a big problem with a lot of urban communities in the US. If you want the middle class tax base, you are going to have to accept their politics and their influence. Otherwise it's just a matter of time before they just give up and move away out of necessity.

The Buckhead talk has probably been around for a good bit longer than St. George, and yes, it's always discussed in terms of race.
Every cityhood discussion in metro ATL is defined in terms of race thanks to media, except for South Fulton.
Amusingly, much of the race baiting comes from the AJC. Which is owned by Cox.
Which is HQ'd in...

Peckerwoody might be a better comparison, but even so St. George would seem to fall a little short.
St. George isn't incorporated. IMO what they choose to do with their own community is none of Baton Rouge's business.
Different story with Buckhead, since it's part of the city of Atlanta.

Whats sad is you are more likely to be a victim of a crime in Atlanta than you are in Chicago

Chicago, like so many northern "neighborhood cities" is segregated AF.
But the southerners are the racist ones for some reason.

Atlanta overall is a total shithole…

Almost every major city is segregated AF, and it's a legacy of federal red lining policies in the 20's through the 50's.

The annexation that brought in Buckhead (along with the west and southwest parts of Atlanta) took place in 1951, long before the city's demographics changed:
Then the 1960s happened. Well intentioned but poorly executed forced bussing pushed a huge portion of the city's middle class into outlying suburbs.
I'd say that similar politics are doing the same today, but I don't think it's well intentioned at all.

Atlanta is far less segregated than Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Detroit, etc.

I've lived in a number of large and mid sized cities in the south, the northeast, and the midwest. I've always found southern cities to be far, far less segregated than their counterparts north of I-70.
I wasn't around to see the 1950s and you likely weren't either. My observations are based on the last 15 years.

I disagree, but it's definitely declining. Some major changes are needed there.

Yet you have people rooting for the city's collapse without fixing the underlying problems.

The argument ultimately boils down to "We're entitled to your money and you're a racist if you want to exercise self-determination and keep your own money." It's too bad we don't have a fair media establishment which would let that idea be debated in public.
And this is the SG argument in a nutshell

What the frick is PJ Media? That article is insanely biased and opinionated, don't read that garbage.

Atlanta is very likely the least segregated big city in America, and potentially the world if having a considerable amount of minorities (based on the locale) is a prerequisite.

What’s really sad is Baton Rouge has considerably more murders than ATL does so far this year. Craziness.
