Yeah but then you’re in a car for hours. With another person, which is my actual nightmare.

So it's not MCO? Then...

Austin is only a 7 hour drive, so it's not quite as big of a hassle as driving to Orlando. However, the short flight time and ease in and out of the airport means one saves about 4 hours of time each way at the cost of $100 plus rental car or ubers while in Austin. Depending on time constraints, that might or might not be worth it some times, especially if one can spare $300 to get back 8 hours plus stuck behind the wheel of a car.

True. That's why car transportation is typically always cheaper, but why it can also be less efficient and far more stressful. With this route causing the price to fall far enough that the convenience and time saved seriously outweighs the added cost for one person, means it likely also makes sense to do so with two people. The crossover point is typically around 3 or 4 (aka, when you're hauling around a minivan full of miscreants).

Even at $149 one way it's still a better deal to fly Southwest to Orlando from NOLA.

Yeah, but driving down to NOLA costs an extra hour each way. Plus, it's easier (and cheaper) to get an uber or friends to bring you to/from the airport in BR if you're already in BR than it is to do the same for NOLA. That extra 2 hours is very valuable. What I am saying is that this helps tip the math closer to being in favor of BTR. I rarely fly out of BTR due to the price, but when the price is even remotely close to MSY, I take BTR every time due to convenience of getting to and from.

Not when you're only talking about 2 flights per week here. I can leave Nola at 5 AM and get an full extra day of vacation. 1:40 in the afternoon on a thursday wastes a day anyway.

As of right now, an adult roundtrip ticket to Orlando and Austin is $99.

At this point it would cost me about $200 in gas to drive there. I'd be willing to let go an additional $100 plus Ubers to save me from driving to Austin.

I’m a huge BTR fanboy. For the places I go, the difference from MSY is within $100. By the time I drive an hour each way and pay $11 per day for parking, you’ve pretty much closed the gap.

I only fly MSY when there’s a nonstop that works for me.

But I don't want to leave at 5:00am. I want to sleep in and have a relaxing vacation. If I am awake at 5:00am, it is due to necessity. Someone has died, something has gone horribly wrong at work, the dog is throwing up, etc. I'm not going to make myself get up at 5:00am just so I can be in Austin for a few extra hours when nothing is open.

I dunno about that. I was going through the booking process and had a total of $198 on my faux round trip ticket to ORL

Most every time I've shopped flights, BTR has been at LEAST $200 higher, usually 300 or 400 on a round trip flight WITH multiple layovers despite MSY being direct!

You can leave at just about anytime you wanted. I don't want my schedule dictated by a flight and a bad flight time at that. It would cost me a day of vacation without ever being on vacation. 3 tickets plus baggage plus rental/uber in Orlando wouldn't save me money either since I get free bags on Southwest and free bus ride at MCO. Throw in the convenience of dropping my bags off at the airport and not having to worry about them until they're in my room, and it's a no brainer.

BTR always gets some dipshit airline to offer flights to somewhere (other than HOU/DFW/ATL) who dries up in less than a year.

I'll believe this when I see it.

It's great having an airport here but it's nothing more to me than a fast way to get to Houston or Atlanta.

Yeah but I’m flying on something like a random Tuesday most times. It might be more than $100 sometimes but definitely not 300+.

I also get reimbursed 56 (?) or something cents per mile so it costs my company $100 to me for that and $60 to the airport for parking..
