I like both as long as there is a little red to them.

So IMO, either something in the merlot/burgundy spectrum or something toward walnut, like Allen Edmonds' chili color.

I tend not to wear truer browns w/ gray, but people do it.

I try to wear black shoes as infrequently as possible.

Personally, I like brown with a bit of red undertone for matching with grey.

BTW, can't go wrong with those Allen Edmonds

edit: also, if you can, wear the dress pants you want to match when you go to try on the shoes so you can be sure it looks good. Some browns really don't look good with some grays, and it's hard to tell unless you see them together.

Is anyone else getting hammered with AE ads now?

Depends upon the time of year, weight of fabric, and above all, shade of grey.
