Both work great, just make sure your belt matches.

Definitely brown w navy, black is my switch up wildcard color with blues. The charcoal burgundy combo only works with lighter charcoal. Some suits that are "charcoal" are almost black and look weird with any type of brown/ burgundy. I tend to lump those two shoe colors together when it comes to pairing.

A darker gray with those shoes in the second picture is an awesome pair. I wore that combo today.

ETA:

AE's are great and I have a couple that I love. I bounce around a lot though and get good use out of some of the slightly cheaper brands. People say that the jm's are crap but I've found stuff like that lasts just as long and looks good if you care for them properly.

these are my fave currents that i wear, they are banana republic, and the quality isn't all that great, but for $50, they were perfect

FWIW, I am starting to put AEs on par with JMs. AE's quality has gone downhill over the past 10 years or so. They're getting by on past glory.

lighter is more casual, darker for more formal attie

I like the lighter shoes almost always though

Brown is good, but black works better.

Right, those look just as nice and I'd put money on them lasting just as long. I didn't realize AE was slipping but MoJo has a point. They don't seem to be the shoe that everyone makes them out to be.

This is the truth. I'd go with light if you're young and have a belt to match.

For the people only doing black and grey don't be afraid to push the envelope.

I do wear black with dark grey. With light color suits I will wear a light brown Allen Edmonds Strand or a J&M captoe that I have.

Also love adding some pop with colored shoe laces.

both are great, just as long as the belt matches the shoes
