congrats to you though, if you have a truck pushing 100k and no other service besides the 6k maintenance.
I had the transmission serviced @ 50k, but that's been it. They didn't even mention the one thing that I thought I'd be needing, front brakes

you're pushing 100k, so you will need other systems to be addressed besides just the regular maintenance every 6k.
Yeah, I know. Just didn't realize they'd hit me up for all of them all at once. Does a tune up for a V8 typically cost $500? I haven't had a tune up on a vehicle since my old V6 F-150 years ago and I don't remember it being more than $200

Just depends on what they mean by fuel service and transmission service.

Years ago my wife was tricked into getting a transmission flush & fill in a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Almost immediately the trans went to crap.

I'm not a mechanic, but I'm of the opinion you don't mess with the transmission unless there is an issue. I don't do the flush and fill stuff.

I would guess fuel service is changing the filters, I have a diesel so fuel filter is changed every other oil change I believe.

I usually follow the maintenance schedule in my my owners manual.

You can get a K&N air filter for $55 and never have to change it again. Just wash, dry, oil every 50,000 miles. The cleaning kit is $10 and is good for 3 cleanings.

If you don't plan on keeping the truck much longer, it may not be worth it. You can get a paper air filter for cheaper than $55.

If you wait too long to change the trans fluid a varnish can build up inside the unit. New trans fluid is very high in detergent soooo it will wash all the varnish that has built up in all the internal seals causing damage to those seals and creating a pressure problem.

The vehicle manufacturer puts out a list of what should be done at specific mileage intervals. They should all be listed in your users manual. Usually a lot of things are recommended to be done at the 100k mark. They are just advising you of a list of things the manufacturer recommends based on your mileage. Yeah, their shop rates are insane, but everyone knows that. But this list isn't something they just concocted and presented to you.

If you haven't done transmission fluid probably a good time to do it.

Adding everything up from the OP, they were wanting to do like $1,432.00 worth of maintenance on his truck. To give some perspective, for that same amount of money, you can get just about everything they had on that list for this Caterpillar track-type tractor....

... And that's getting it done at a Caterpillar dealership.

(in other words, they were trying to bend you over and go in dry prison shower-room style.)

You can do it yourself by taking the pan off, draining it and refilling it. But don't let the shop do it--because they'll use that machine which has already been discussed.

If you want to do it, just google around for a write up on your vehicle. The fluid should be replaced though at some point.

All that service guy did was pop a cd in a computer and type in your make, year model and mileage and print out all the suggested maintenance and call you with an estimate on everything that cd suggested be done. I managed a service station while in college and I did these estimates on a daily basis but i would just staple it to their receipt and ask them to read over it and come back if they would like any of the services done. Some people are really anal and always want all of this done but most of it is really not necessary. Cant blame the service place for offering it bc what they are suggesting is probably the same thing your manual suggest but most of it isnt a must imo.

Try having to pay $300 to change a light blub just because the front bumper has to be removed just to access the headlights. Headlight bulbs were $20.00 a piece.
