At one time it was the best school in the parish. John Parker orchestrated the decline.

When I said I had a quality education at Broadmoor I meant it. My parents didn't need to send me to a fancy magnet or private school to kick a** in the books. My teachers at Broadmoor (most were LSU alumni) were intelligent, nuturing, and pushed me to take the most challenging courses available such as physics, calculus, world history, etc so I would do exceptionally well in college which is exactly what happened.

I graduated from LSU with a 3.78 GPA in Mechanical Engineering which was higher than most of my classmates, including those that graduated from Catholic, Episcopal, Redemptorist, Jesuit, St. Thomas Moore, BRMHS, etc which pissed some of them off lol. I could've graduated with a 4.0 if it wasn't for the bad company my freshmen year (party animals). But to me LSU wasn't that challenging at all (below my expectations at least).

I've had a successful career in the engineering industry. So yeah, Broadmoor is a hidden jewel ... my experience there definitely put me on the path to success.

Cesspool is harsh, but the school has declined for a number of reasons but there are still very talented and ambitious students that come from there. For example, The Advocate ran a story on a Broadmoor graduate a couple years ago that got a FULL RIDE to EMORY UNIVERSITY which is an elite and highly ranked private university in Atlanta ... so it's a big deal and very rare.

The great memories I had while there are golden and I just will always bleed Columbia Blue and Scarlet Red .... that will never change no matter what happens with the school today.

Not sure if I cracked open more than 5 books during my 4 years at BHS (late 90's) haha. And I'm pretty sure I finished with well over a 3.5. I wouldn't say it was a quality education but more so an easy one. Took me a while to get adjusted to college academics and actually how to study.

Having said that, I enjoyed my time and had fun. But it mostly consisted of sports practices and drinking, not academics.

And Coach Hill still owes me some gas money. RIP.

My younger cousin graduated from Broadmoor High in 2000 with summa cum laude honors (top 10 in his class) and he also graduated from LSU with high honors and now is a successful architect in Dallas. If you were serious about your education at Broadmoor (as he and I was), you would've been very prepared for LSU or any college for that matter. Broadmoor again provided a quality education, just some students didn't take full advantage of it and did enough to get by and of course it caught up with them if they made it to college.

Interestingly enough, I went to Belaire for 1.5 years and dropped out of the last med magnet class that came in during deseg. Convinced my parents that Buc Town was where I wanted to be (My best friend and many other friends had to go there after the new district lines were drawn) Got into band and choir and had a fking blast the rest of my HS days. Geaux Bengals/Geaux Bucs! C.O. 2000.

Eta: Coach Vaughn was the GOAT.

I was serious about shooting hoops and getting laid. And I'm doing just fine in life, LSU degree included.

Also yes Mr. Vaughn was the GOAT. Anyone know if he is still alive?

I played Sherwood Hawk BREC football with Mark. Also Robert Lamb, Billy DeWitt, Bud Hinson, Mark Spence and Lynn Fink. Kevin Darouse was our Quarterback.

Played baseball against him for Rabenhorst. He played for Dick Howell Realty.

I thought the Begley 500 was earlier than '76 by a few years. Even we called her Bullseye Begley.

That may be the greatest Broadmoor related story ever.

No, cesspool is pretty damn accurate. Its about 10% neighborhood kids now and lets just say the neighborhood isn't what it was even 10 years ago. Hell, I graduated in '97 and it was about 50/50 then. My mom still lives on Cora and I can't get her to move fast enough. My best friend lives on S Elaine and he has nothing but elderly people all around him. Once they are gone, its gonna get worse.
