I did read it. Maybe you should re-read it.

quote:

Though she stated, the man “of course was acting very well mannered and like a complete gentleman,” adding that “there were even a few excited teenage girls at my wedding who wanted to take a picture with him, to which he graciously agreed.”

It states that his actions were fine.

quote:

Now, I have nothing against anyone in the military but this was a black tie optional wedding and frankly it felt very out of place and it seemed like he was just trying to show off. My wedding had over 300 guests and nobody else felt the need to wear something to make them stand out,” the bride claimed in her post.

Article states it was his attire.

This mindset is something I can’t get my mind around. As I said last night, I remember it not only being common for military men to wear their dress uniform to formal occasions, it was expected. But now it’s down right offensive? Why? Why does it bother people? What’s the big deal?

Hell I wouldn't find it offensive and I have no idea why this hit this lady so bad. It did though, she may be a big fan of the military, just something about the uniform that day really drove her nuts, may have nothing to do with the military itself, just the timing of someone with something different than what she wanted. There really is no telling from the little we know of the story. She could also just be very anti military and be lying in the article. Who knows...

That's true for a lot of women on their wedding day, there are a lot of crazy shite that happens at weddings. Probably by a lot of OTers wives, but not many will admit to it.

Is it safe to say the guy that wore his military uniform to the wedding is an attention whore?

There is a growing trend of people becoming easily offended over anything these days. It’s permeating schools and campuses across the country.

From cops to military to ICE agents. People feel they should be isolated from anything that makes them feel inferior our uncomfortable. It’s a troubling trend and I wouldn’t be surprised if this was an underlying motive.

The article doesn’t state that, but as long as you introduced the hypotheticals.

I wasn’t really talking that much about her as I was how many here in this thread view wearing a dress uniform to a wedding as “showing off”, “duchey”, and “looking for attention”, and downright rude. It just amazes me this is now a common view and bothers so many.

Easily offended is definitely rising, being a bridezilla is being put into some people's heads that like reality shows as well.

This seems to be more of a fit about not being center of attention than being offended though.

What kind of weddings do y'all go to? I've never seen anything outlandish at all.

The top quote explains a lot about 08’s post.

Unless you are in certain circles that are pro military or based around government jobs, I would argue military uniforms have been viewed negatively by high social circles for awhile. Upper class don't typically do the fighting, especially liberal social circles.

You’re the one accusing him of being an attention whore. So instead of asking why others thought he wasn’t doing this, you need to explain what makes you think he was.

They're the military equivalent of black tie, but they're not the same at all. Unless you're there in some military capacity, you should wear traditional black tie.

I disagree. They are the equivalent and training says so unless things have changed in the 30 years I have been out. Regs allow for wearing of the Mess Dress to black-tie and white tie (for officers) events across the board not just military.

This chick got her panties in a wad over BS, hopefully it was the stress of the day and not who she really is, although most peoples true colors show best under stress.

OR, she could have been specific in her demands and not left it optional.

Bruh.

I already told you that technically, dress blues would be acceptable at a black tie required affair.

Practically, they'd be pretty ridiculous outside of specific situations.

Well the bride said as much for one. Unless being gentlemanly and well mannered is considered trashy attention whoring now of course.

This is a tough question for me. I'm retired military.

Bottom line: young Marines are much more likely to do this. Older Marines/Soldiers, no. It's marginally acceptable behavior for a young active duty Marine/Soldier to do this.

A young and relatively new active duty Marine that's been on active duty for only four years or less and is 22 years old or less is much more likely to wear his Dress Blues uniform to this kind of function.

Older military personnel who have been on active duty for quite a bit longer than four years are almost certainly not going to wear the Dress Blues or its other service equivalent.

But, let's be honest and gracious here, folks -- a young Marine or Soldier who is sporting some decorations received for recent combat action is going to wear that Class A uniform to that wedding.

No, it's not offensive. No one has suggested it was offensive in this thread.
