Don’t be an idiot. It’s all well and good to punish a dog owner when his dog attacks a human, but what good does that really do? It’s justice for the sake of revenge, instead of deterrence. What we should do is make prospective dog owners (of certain breeds. Poodles don’t kill people) take a short course so that they understand, before they buy the dog, that they will be held accountable, and could serve prison time, if their dog attacks a person. That would stop some people from owning dogs.

Dogs bite. It's really their only defense mechanism.
Most dogs don't have the ability to kill when they bite.
Some do. Those shouldn't be kept as pets.
If owners of a dog kills, they should be accountable for their pet's actions.

Everyone knows that a pit bull has the strength to kill people. That can not be argued. We also know that some do kill. The question then is, why would you want a dog that is capable of that? To own a pit bull means that you are as dumb as a bag of hammers, and you should eat a bag of dinguses, or, maybe that would be dingi. As to bayou rouge, saying that poodles, retrievers, etc. are more aggressive? Are you really that stupid? If a poodle of retriever bites you, you do not end up in the morgue.
