Played SM last Friday morning. Teed off at 7am. Had a 5some then 2some in front of us. The 5some had no consideration for the people behind them. We made the turn and they had about 15 people waiting to tee off on the 1st hole. They had a 2some right behind us and was coming up to the green when we teed off on 10. A single decided he didnt feel like waiting behind everybody on the 1st so he jumped in front of the 2some behind us. This is the type of person that shouldnt be allowed on the golf course. No consideration for anybody but themselves. If you don't want to wait, show up early or go somewhere else. Unfortunately even after BREC opens up for paying golf again you will still have some inconsiderate people at those same certain courses...

Shawnlsu said that he can’t partake in tax paying business because of the stay at home order....
The point is that I’m curious what his business is.

If I’m a single and see that there isn’t anyone playing 3 holes ahead of me, is it ok to jump ahead. I’m not gonna hold up those i skipped...I play fast alone

Love my taxes going to golf courses

Not only is it okay, but it’s kind of encouraged. Quarantine rules aside, it’s a general law of the course that singles get no love.

You would be way wrong.
It's been ten years since I worked for BREC, so things might be different now, but Santa Maria and Beaver Creek paid for themselves and a whole lot more.

3 holes in between is alot different than jumping in between 2 groups where one is teeing off and the other is walking up to the green.

A lot of people believe that but it isn’t true. Beaver especially has never paid for itself. Santa Maria does break even when no administrative costs are applied to it and that is how they attempt to spin it. The last year they presented numbers in business report it was really bad. Last few years they have been trying to not report numbers because people are catching on that golf is a loser in Baton Rouge and land could be used for something better.

I have posted this many times on here because for some reason people like to believe BREC Golf is amazing and Beaver Creek and Santa Maria make money. The numbers have not improved since this chart. They even stopped reporting them in press. They moved to only reporting rounds played which is where I get that they have not improved from here.
BREC Rounds down in 2019

Man those numbers are sad. BR area golf is in a pretty dire situation at the moment. Sherwood closed, The Island isn’t opening up its doors again after restrictions lift unless the residents buy the course, The Bluffs and Copper still aren’t fully restored yet.
Really couldn’t handle Santa Maria or Beaver closing too.

I don’t think Santa Maria and Beaver will close. I think it’ll be Dumas and City Park.

City Park actually looks like it’s doing pretty good, guessing because the maintenance for a shitty 9 hole course is next to nothing.
Dumas would be no great loss but still hate seeing courses close. Might have to get a junior membership soon as people are starting to get squeezed into getting tee times at the few remaining public courses available.

City Park isn’t going to close. Folks will try every 10 years or so though.

How does Greystone do now? I used to play there almost every weekend. Obviously not BREC, just curious.

The thing about CP is only 12k ppl a year get to use that great space. It is amazing real estate in the middle of the City. The return on that as an investment isn’t great. There is a push by citizens to make that a public park.

brec should up their flag football , basketball , soccer leages again

Not sure about Greystone, but the last time I played it was in pretty good shape which is always a solid sign. Plus they’re the closest option for the Denham area, especially since Sherwood closed, so they got that working in their favor.

Don’t see more than 12k people using that space if they did convert it to a park, and I doubt that would make a significant difference in net expenses anyway (might actually hurt it). It’s kind of a park already considering the space at the front and the fact that the lakes route is right by there.

Been that way for a long long time. People push but aren’t successful.
