I was never a Marine.

I enjoy hiking Joshua Tree, but I couldn't imagine actually living and working out there.

Semper. I've been lucky enough to work at both. I have a great view of Opelousas Ave. Front row seat to a shootout last week.

A few years ago I was visiting my aunt in San Diego before heading out to Hawaii. She was also hosting a friends son and his buddies, who were all stationed at Twentynine Palms. Nice kids, they were on a tactical recovery team and flew on Ospreys.

He was only on the base 6 months, but I hope everyone else still there is okay.

But aren't they stupidly not allowed to carry on base? I think it changed recently but only for off duty law enforcement on base.

Off duty, active duty Marine law enforcement personnel are allowed to as of Jan 2020. Not sure if other active duty Marines are allowed to.

“Active Shooter”

Worst headline of all time.

Concur.

A shooter is a shooter. Not like there are inactive shooters around.

We’ve obviously hit phase III of the destroy and divide America rollout.

Covid/economy
BLM/race relations
Mass/active shooters - gun control

Not really. When the term was first used it had a specific meaning. A shooter was someone who shot someone specific. Such as a husband shooting his wife and Jody when he came home to find them in his bed. He shot someone but he isn’t really a further danger. An “active shooter” was supposed to be for some dude that was on a rampage and was, you know, still actively shooting random people. The problem is that they now use that term for everyone that shoots someone and now the term has no meaning.

Not sure about Schwab, but it was 50/50 on Marines who enjoyed Oki from my experience. It was 100% on people who hated 29 Palms.

The one good thing about 29 Palms was I was within driving distance to Vegas, Laughlin, Big Bear, L.A., Palm Springs, etc..
