You realize "West Africa" is a fairly large area and their are many Americans (and non Americans) that travel in and out for work daily, right?
yes...
and as a company, especially O&G with all their safety protocols, I would not be sending any of my employees to mainland west Africa right now

Nope.

So ever since Nina Pham, the 'race' issue has come alive again and now it's all about "non-black descent" people who make it out alive. I hope 1) this patient makes it 100% with little pain 2) he/she is black so everyone can STFU about ebola and doctors being racist.

Why aren't they just quarantinijg every one that came in contact with him now.

Thinking a US only travel ban would be ineffective
That's where we disagree.
1) it's more effective than doing nothing
2) the US is a global leader. By taking this action it would make it easier for other countries to do the same, which would be a major step in the right direction.

just don't think it would do anything to prevent further infections in the US, UNLESS, the entire world agrees to it
So do nothing? Your a fricking moron!
We won't miss a single one of those mother frickers by not letting them travel here. I bet if it were your daughters job to hug them at the gate upon arrival, house have a much different attitude.
It's like a pipe leaking in your house. Would you keep trying to clean up the mess without stopping the water from coming from the leak?
Your just dumb

So much awesome.

What is the harm in preventing people from ebola stricken countries from entering the country?

No one has addressed why these medical professionals who are caring for Ebola patients aren't just being sequestered or quarantined to help prevent a spread.

I am contending that simply banning people from coming to America with a west african passport or stamp will not prevent further infections in America. Unless there is some sort of worldwide ban or some major quarantine in west africa

how is mitigating risk "run and hide"?
every successful company in the world does it
I'd much prefer to be proactive than reactive
although at this point is would be reactive

I hate to see this for this health system. They actually won the top quality award in Texas last year. They were on the verge of winning a national award too. Shows hop important process and people are in the entire healthcare continuum. Each patient has the opportunity to make or break you as a hospital.

They most likely will get this under control. What worries me more here is the responds by our government and the CDC. What if this had been an airborne virus when Duncan got to the ER that first day? We have no idea how much worse this could have been, but its not promising to think that the same people and protocols would have prevented a bigger problem.
Terrible. Second case. More probably to come. 1 or 2 I guess. Saw a couple things this AM. Are the 76 workers exposed now under quarantine or are they at work still? No hospital can handle a 76 person staff drop. Why were there ever that many in that room or dealing with that guy? Question was asked on CNN.
Second on network interview. NBC or bcs I can't recall. "Is this a problem with all hospitals or just this one?" Living in Houston and having worked in over 12 hospitals across three systems in the region, it is the case with ALL. The same insufficient PPE was available at all facilities. A former surgeon general would not answer this question. It is nationwide. It will take millions to correct and much equipment will be wasted but it has to happen.

If Louise and her kid don't die from being infected by "Daddy" Duncan, she'll probably sue for malpractice.
