My wife is a nurse at the highest ranked hospital in Los Angeles. And after talking to her, if they had an ebola case, I promise you it would almost definitely be a cluster frick.

Many hospitals lost MILLIONS of federal funding Jan 1 due to Obama care. They are running on tighter budgets. Our hospital lost 30 million.

We are constantly pressured to have adequate staffing. Made to take more patients now to help out with the tighter budget. Working with less staff now.

True, I'm sure they are in beast mode right now as far as CYA and proper protocols (if any exist). I just can't believe the CDC has been so poor on this.

That said, Nurse, you were somewhat confident that this was nothing to worry about when the original patient was flown to Emory. Are you still as confident this can be handled effectively by our medical infrastructure? I am not.

I was confident in that patient being treated at THAT facility.

I am not confident in regular hospitals treating ebola patients. Your typical hospital is just not equipped to deal with it.

Don't hospitals deal with diseases that are much more infectious?

Well I don't deal with all the financial stuff. I'm just a nurse.

But when you have hospitals that the majority of their funding/reimbursement is from Medicaid...and you then take away 30 million dollars of federal funding to that hospital...what do you think happens?

I'm sorry, but how can these hospitals be understaffed and under-equipped when it costs your mortgage, car, and family jewels to stay one night for minor surgery?

Something is terribly wrong with the system but I guess we already knew that..

I don't need a hazmat suit to care for a patient with the flu or with tb

Not every hospital is a for profit hospital.

This whole situation is all very confusing. Well, I hope they figure it out.

the loss is passed along to the patient and/or insurance companies. If a business isn't profitable they go out of business.
