Well I don't work in the ER. So not as worried. But it's bullshite that the hospitals are basically throwing nurses under the bus with this.
as a NICU nurse (I assume you work in the NICU), what are the chances you would ever have to deal with an Ebola patient?

So if you had to go to the ER in Dallas today for something not ebola-related, what are the odds that you would use this hospital? 0%? Less than 0%?

yeah, i just heard that they handled his tubes of blood incorrectly according to a pretty standard "infectious disease protocol."
His blood was sent in the tube systems they use to send samples from floor to floor. Basically...the whole tube system could be contaminated now. His samples should have been walked down to the lab.
More nurses talking about how NO HAZ MAT suits being used. And how they were told to just tape up the areas that the gown didn't cover their skin(plastic gowns expose your neck and your scrubs below your knees)

i haven't heard a single hospital blame the nurses. The CDC director (Dr. Freeman (sp)) however has buried his foot deeply in his mouth blaming nurses. Stupid shite had to walk it back the nest day, too. No surprise there though, as he is having to walk back many of his statements .

I work on the peds floor(occasionally I'm floated to the NICU).
So I could very well get a kid with it I guess.

Does that really matter? Let's say... broken leg with a bone sticking out.

sadly, i worry that she did suit-up properly, but the undressing and decontamination was the breach in protocol.

you think they would send a kid with Ebola to the NICU?
arent the ER nurses the ones that are most at risk?

I'm talking about that the hospitals are NOT providing the nurses and medical staff with the PROPER equipment to protect themselves. They aren't providing adequate training. They aren't even training the nurses how to properly clean up after it(ex: when Duncan was projectile vomiting...housekeeping wouldn't clean it..nurses had to clean it up...leaving vomit stained linen piled up cause they had no way to dispose of it).

uhhhhhggggggghhhh
i guuuuuuuuuessssssssss i'd go, but mostly because i probably passed out from seeing the broken bone sticking out of my leg skin and can't argue with whomever is transporting me.

Again...I'm talking about the peds floor. And I highly doubt it.
Yes...ER ones most at risk...why I'm not as worried.
Hospitals are all facing budget cuts. Many have gone as cheaply as possible. I've noticed it at work myself in cheaper PPE.
Another nurse saying his hospital has NO hazmat suits and that cheap gloves. That their hospital has set up a room for ebola patients...but it has no anteroom to even properly decontaminate in.
Basically nurses from all over the nation saying the same thing in their hospitals.

Sounds like a union bitch fest to me.
Not every state has a nursing union. I know AZ doesn't. This is nurses all over the world chiming in fwiw.

100% agree. nurses really have a thankless job. they do 95% of the work so the doctors can walk in with an ipad and say 'yep, looks good.'
i work in the healthcare industry as well nurse..in fact you probably use our software..does 'online regulatory training' mean anything to you?
we are scrambling to get some ebola content up to provide out to our hospitals shortly so don't be surprised if your ED director appraoches you in the next week to do some additional training online.
My girlfriend was a nurse before she went into the device side of things, and would agree with you on how much the nurses do, and how often she would have to correct residents who had no idea what they were doing.
I work in pharma advertising, so when i hear "online regulatory training", I think of content about the review and approval process for promotional pieces for the sales force.

You work for APEX?
Now a nurse from a hospital in Chicago saying the same concerns.

so you really have nothing to worry about?
You have about much of a chance catching Ebola as the rest of us?

Ohhh! Gotcha. And I agree FWIW. I think its criminal that the CDC (and Hospitals, if complicit) are not providing the necessary info, training, and PPE to the people exposed to these patients.

I still work at a hospital that routinely gets patients from Africa though as refugees. Again they are from Somalia and Ethiopia..other side. But still.
I'd rather stay informed on this. Considering I work nights and all my admits come from the ER. With flu season...what if a kid ends up on the floor with what they think it the flu...and really is ebola?
