Uh - it's thousands now - Vinson went through the DFW and CLE airports - twice, plus flew at least 2 legs in commercial aircraft. She used bathrooms, etc. There are thousands of potential exposures just from her alone

Yeah, so given that, at some point it becomes impossible to quarantine all of the people potentially exposed, and this thing snowballs out of control. Might be time to close the borders to passengers originating from W. Africa.

I thought she was symptomatic only in the return flight?

Also, my understanding is that not all symptoms will transmit in the same fashion. This of course is premised on it not being airborne, which we think is true, but clearly the threat of transmission probably rises with vomiting, bleeding and diarrhea.

I bet they used more than hand sanitizer and soap at Texas Pres.

Wonder how much salad bar salad their cafeteria is moving?

Isn't Phams dog in a decommissioned air base or something? Very Stephen King ish but can't places like this be utilized to quarantine? Prep them for people of course and then isolate them? Those flying in and those know to be exposed. All positives taken to one of the 4 places like Emory?

It was initially reported that she wasn't symptomatic on the return flight. TBH, there are too many unknowns about this virus and, thus far, everything the authorities have told us has been really optimistic, rosy spin (and that's being kind.)

Agree that there is incompetence that isn't especially inspiring. Disagree that panic or significant concern is warranted. Americans should stay informed and take reasonable precautions to avoid unnecessary contact, as they should during flu season or anything else.

I agree that the government should stop being so obstinate about potential travel restrictions, and should put together a panel of reasonable and experienced folks to formulate ideas about everything we could be doing.

Not sure that would fly...as many of those who were known to be exposed but not positive for ebola could be infected by one or two who were known to be exposed and actually were infected.

No

National Nurses United

They are now talking about National Nurses United sent several hazmet suits to Liberia for nurses over there to protect themselves. Woman just said "we assumed the hospitals would provide those for us here". This is about the hospitals not providing the proper equipment to protect medical staff.

So, we continue to risk spillage of the virus into the general population? I agree it is an imperfect solution, but doing nothing isn't working.

Now they are saying the hospital had the nurses that took care of Duncan care for other patients.

There were no mandated training at that hospital.

Basically talking about how nurses are being told by the hospitals to handle this on their own.

Now a nurse from Spain talking

Nurse - I suspect there isn't enough PPE to go around. You guys and girls on the front line will continue to bear the risk and casualties (like soldiers) until we get a better grip on things.

Of course, if we had temporarily suspended travel from the infected area - the U.S. would be Ebola free.

My daughter works as a scribe in an E/R. It is a front and center issue for us. They treated a person with West African contacts last night.

So this nurse who knows she's been exposed to Ebola goes and hops on a plane and exposes potentially thousands to it?

Well I don't work in the ER. So not as worried. But it's bullshite that the hospitals are basically throwing nurses under the bus with this.

Glad it's getting national coverage.

Another nurse talking about how at her hospital she only got 10 minutes of training. None of it hands on.

She got an email with links to the CDC to read. And told training will be coming in 6 to 8 weeks.

100% agree. nurses really have a thankless job. they do 95% of the work so the doctors can walk in with an ipad and say 'yep, looks good.'

i work in the healthcare industry as well nurse..in fact you probably use our software..does 'online regulatory training' mean anything to you?

we are scrambling to get some ebola content up to provide out to our hospitals shortly so don't be surprised if your ED director appraoches you in the next week to do some additional training online.
