Wonder if Pitt is kicking himself for even getting involved now?

Almost four years ago, residents of homes built by the Make It Right Foundation, a futuristic post-Hurricane Katrina housing development founded by Brad Pitt, sued the Hollywood superstar and his associates for defective design and building practices, breach of contract, and fraud. Late Tuesday, attorneys for the Make It Right Foundation and the affected residents told Orleans Parish Civil District Court that they had agreed on a settlement meant to make all residents of the development whole.
Make It Right will pay owners of the homes it built in the Lower 9th Ward $20.5 million, according to court documents. Though only six homeowners are named in the lawsuit against Make It Right, the class-action lawsuit settlement applies to all of the homeowners unless they choose to opt out.
Pending approval by a judge, each of the 107 Make It Right homeowners will be eligible to receive $25,000 as reimbursement for previous repairs made by the owners.

That upstairs deck on the red house is cool and all but does that roof slant inward towards the center? Wow

Which is why you don’t give an inch to begin with.

As a native New Orleanian I am ashamed of this. Brad Pitt put his heart into and stuck his neck out for those residents and they just turned around and fricked him. He can probably afford the money but to have his name dragged through the mud over this is deplorable.

Might feed a cistern.
Hopefully has some sort of serious overflow precautions

Probably should have been sued for building those ugly raised trailers, or truck parade floats, in the first place.

can someone tell me what the main issues were with the houses?

Yeah bro it's got a hole in it. There is a water fall and a crawfish pond in the basement.

Bet the majority of these plaintiffs were not new to civil suits

I don't know anything about this except what is in the article, but it sounds like he did charge people. They had to pay a subsidized price. And they admitted to using a faulty "green" materials and to design defects. And looking at the pics, some of these houses look ridiculous for the south. Like the one that appears to have a roof channeling the water to the center of the house. Some of the houses are already abandoned or demolished.

Make It Right acknowledged flaws in the architecture at least twice. First, in 2015, it sued the manufacturer of an ecologically friendly, water-resistant wood for $500,000, when the product proved to be no match for south Louisiana weather. Make It Right lawyers sued its own managing architect, John C. Williams, in 2018, blaming him for millions in design defects.

This is what Brad Pitt gets when trying to do something nice for the people in this cesspool of a city.

Probably not designed for S. Louisiana weather and climate, not maintained or cared for, and built with someone they know has money.

I would like to believe anybody with an ounce of sense can see through this.
The big question is will the money awarded go back into the house?

Looks like basic maintenance issues were neglected by the residents.

After attorney's fees are paid, the rest of the money would be divided up according to the problems that are present in each of the avant-garde structures, which have been beleaguered by leaks, rot and other defects.
quote:
Residents’ complaints peaked with a September 2018 class-action lawsuit. The suit alleged that many of the houses were poorly built with inadequate materials. According to the suit, some of the homes suffered from rain leakage that caused rot, structural damage and mold. The suit also cataloged faulty heating, cooling and ventilation systems, plus electrical malfunctions and plumbing mishaps.
Two rotting houses were ripped down within 10 years of being built. Some of the other buildings, still relatively new, are boarded up.

Make It Right homeowner Patricia Lewis hopes it doesn't take too long to distribute the settlement money that resulted from a four-year lawsuit struggle.

$25,000.00 x 107 = $2,675,000.00
Where is the rest of the money going?
ETA: Just realized the $25,000.00 is just for previous repairs already made by owner.
