How grueling would it be working there 8-4pm 5d/wk? I'm sure it'll gets old quick. Moving to NOLA is not an option (Gonzales-maybe). The proposed commuter train/rail = BR loop. Anyone makes this drive regularly and how do you keep your sanity?

Did from Pville to downtown for about 4 years and 1 year at different times.

Sucks. Know people who do it all the time though. You lose 2-3 hours of your day in a car. My life greatly improved when I move.

I bought a radar gun and would use it to set off radar detectors in cars that were in my way. Makes them move over and pretend they weren't speeding. A lot more fun than it sounds when stuck in a car.

Why is nola or the local area not an option?

Its got much better everything than literally everywhere elsewhere in the state.

Computed from BR to st rose for 12 years. Not that bad. Add another 20 minutes for downtown. It is not as bad as it seems. I10 between is so much better than I12

Your quality of life will immediately take a nose dive. You'll eventually get used to the commute and may even learn to tolerate it, but there's no getting around the fact that your quality of life will be greatly diminished.

Take it from someone who used to have a similar commute.

I was shocked at how much better of a mood I was in. Best decision I made was to stop commuting. And I really didn't mind the commute that much.

Yep. I went from driving about an hour and fifteen minutes each way to a 30 minute train ride. I would get home from work before 7pm and think "holy shite I have so much time before I need to go to sleep. I can actually do things now."

I considered the reverse, from NOLA to BR near Siegen, for a great job but I couldn't do it. The morning didn't seem bad because it only involved waking up earlier, but the prospect a two hour drive home to have less time time with my kids pushed me to decline the opportunity.

If I was without kids I probably would have done commute. If single I probably would have moved.

Did it for a awhile. It took its toll on me and I found a new job in BR. It's like this: BR to Kenner is 45 min; Kenner to CBD is 45-50 min. Raining between 310 & NOLA: add 15 min. Wreck on bonnet carre: add 1 hr. BC closes for wreck: add 2hrs IF you can divert to 61 in time & not get trapped. Sat on the BC for 3 hrs one night while they scraped a motorcyclist off the pavement in Laplace.

Would leave NOLA for BR at 530 and get home 715-730. Leave NOLA at 6, get home at 730. Also, go ahead and budget about 500/yr for the speeding tickets in St. John parish.

Save a few empty bottles for eventually getting stuck on the spillway and having to piss like no tomorrow.

That's insane.

Assuming a 90 minute drive each way (which in all honesty is very conservative) and 4 weeks of vacation, you're driving 720 hours per year.

That's 90, 8 hour work days...in your car.
That's 18 full work weeks...in your car
That's 9 paychecks worth of time...in your car.

I don't know your situation, but you either need to move or find a new job. That's a ridiculous waste of time.

ETA: For the record, I value my time and try to live as close to work as possible. I currently have a 10 minute commute to work on a bad day. Very little wear and tear on my car, I spend $30 per month on gas and I can go home for lunch if I want. I can't imagine driving near 2 hours each way.

OP might have kids in school or divorced with 50/50 custody or something like that.

My buddy commuted from BR to Kenner for 8 years because he had 50/50 custody of his kids.

There’s no way in hell I would do this. The only option if you need to be close to BR is split the difference and live in Destrehan/Laplace
