Absolutely. Great points.

All you morons should be happy. Two less mouths you have to feed with your hard earned tax dollars.

is this how life works now?

I go out and buy or acquire something I can't afford.
Thus making an ignorant financial decision.
Then I get on GoFundMe or social media and beg for money?

And everyone out there is supposed to look past her ignorance, this whole thing being her own doing, and feel bad for her, thus donating?

Is she going to donate money to me if I go out and buy my wife a loaded 2018 Chevy Tahoe, me a brand new loaded F150, and then I can't afford the monthly notes?

Same thing. Except she gets to use the "underprivileged poor minority children" card. We have to stop rewarding these morons for making ignorant financial mistakes? This is no different than minorities having 6 kids with a dual income of $50K. Well, they are living the dream, let's all just pay taxes for their ignorance.

Sounds like you should support some Planned Parenthood.

Adoption tax credit is $13K/child. Seems like it was two separate years, so she essentially worked two yrs without having to pay tax.

Just a tidbit..

But the cost of raising children will be much more than any one year tax credit.

Its great she is trying to help underprivileged children, but it isn't responsible to take them in if you can't afford them. I'm sure she was told that along the way by more than one person. Hopefully she gets the money she needs, but I'm not donating to the cause.

Not necessarily. That depends on her out-of-pocket expenses related to the adoption (likely low to nothing if they were in the state system) and her federal tax liability. The adoption tax credit is non-refundable which means it’s limited to your federal tax liability.

So if her federal tax liability is $4K/yr, then she doesn't have to pay any federal tax for that yr. The second adopted child papers were filed in December, so it was likely finalized the following yr.

So two separate yrs of no federal income tax liability.

Just a mention that she has gotten some financial assistance.

How was she able to adopt if she couldn’t prove she was financially able to do so?

I'm guessing she has the funds to provide a roof over their head and meals on the table, but childcare for the younger sibling is what's at the heart of this. Anyone with kids knows that can be prohibitively expensive, even for two working parents. She may have some options, but it seems she wants to get him into a preschool that will get him started on the path to a better education. For that I commend her.

She's trying to make a difference. We all need help at some point in our lives. If you don't feel led to give to the cause, then don't. No one will judge you over that. But I'll definitely not be judging her for taking on such an immense responsibility and working every angle she can to provide for these kids' future. If she gets the two of them through college just by way of her intervention here, she's accomplished more than most of the people on this board, me included.

Good on her.
