I commented in the original thread on the settlement and will say it again:
Saying that is "cheaper to settle" just illuminates the complete lack of strategic vision of today's politicians who are only concerned with their next vote. Any idiot can see that while THIS settlement may cost less than a court fight, it only serves to encourage future litigation that in the aggregate will cost much much more.
You have to set a precedent that you will fight UNJUST litigation to the end regardless of time or cost. Only then will plaintiffs attorneys think twice before filing these bullshite lawsuits.

Yeah well good I'm glad someone had some sense over this deal

We need a "loser pays" system to stop this frivolous shite. There are literally no repercussions for people bringing these fraudulent cases.

Look at the metro council make-up, and then listen to the absolute shite show every time they meet. They'll spend more time arguing how many licks it takes to get to the center of a lollipop than they will deciding on the future of BR. These are Gary Chambers type people. A few of them were even out there protesting and trying to block the streets. Hell, they were the ones who got the permits on such notice to protest downtown.
They have been wanting to pay off the BLM protesters the entire time because they are proud of the havoc they caused elsewhere, and actually don't like that all of the departments around came together and kept these people under control. The payment is a reward from them.
It's easy to spend money when it's not yours

Pushing a "Settle", rather than waste the courts time, plan.

Just like with public schools. Instead of trying to bring people up to the level of the highest achievers, they try and bring the high achievers down to the level of the idiots to make everything fair.
It's an incorrect political ideology that will fail 100% of the time. Fair policies don't ever work

Not a bootlicker, but the police did a damn strong job during the protests. One of the few times I've been proud of BR.

Thank God somebody in this city has some sense....

I don't understand how settling would be cheaper. Doesn't the city/parish have an attorney to handle lawsuits. They are already paying them a salary, let them fight this bullshite.
