Looking at google maps, the only area that runs two parallel rail lines is between Dijon Dr and just ahead of Bluebonnet
There's a perfect location at Mancuso/Picardy to install a station
Sure, because cross-town traffic in that area is as smooth as silk. It'll be a breeze to get to and from that station from anywhere in Baton Rouge.

Exactly
The medical district site is s destination and wouldn't be effective as a jump off site to NO.

The big Blue Bayou parking lot would be the best commuter station location.
IMO.

Traffic in that area is a clusterfrick now. Imagine it with a commuter rail station added to the mix.

yes. Plus the kids that go home every weekend.
How many undergrad students commute from nola every day, like 4?

A small interchange at Bluff(wishful thinking) as well as the ACTUAL interchange/service road being built at Pecue would help alleviate that, big time.

As opposed to between Essen and Bluebonnet?
Traffic is a clusterfrick everywhere.
Except North BR, for the most part.

Other than the bridge, nothing is as screwed up as Essen/Bluebonnet. But I think he was proposing a commuter station at Highland Road in addition to the Medical Center station.

Yes, location is good as a jump off point for either BR or NO.
Problem is they aren't planning s station there and Blue Bayou needs their lot part of the year.
And that area was poorly planned. It's a big jam now, putting more cars there will make it worse.

based on my experiences riding commuter rail in the DC area:
Union Station in NOLA will need two or three high platforms, where you just walk (or roll) straight onto the train
ideally, the service should start at each end about the same time if you want commuters...
fairly lengthy sidings will need to be built so trains can pass each other...

High speed? how high speed could a train making 5 stops on that short trip be? with the stopping and transferring folks ya looking at a several hour trip.

No, you are not. That is ridiculous. Stops take a few minutes each and the trains go at least 80 mph.
People are severely exaggerating how long the ride would be. It will not be 3 hours each way.

I been fixed this for them Traffic folks years ago. But nobody listens to me.
You're basically connecting Kenilworth to 10-12 with elevated road through the Rural Life area and giving full access to the medical city. without hitting Essen.
Kenilworth should also be extended south to 30 to connect to new bridge when it's built. Kenilworth would become a real Parkway/Artery connecting major roads. So yea they'll never let it happen b/c progress is BAD in their back yard.

The Medical district and entergy building sites make sense. Remember, we are trying to plan ahead, and these two areas are the best bets to establish walkable infrastructure.
Look at the master plans for both areas. If this train as well as those plans come to fruition in the next 15-20 years, it would enhance connectivity between downtown and mid city as well as Essen and Bluebonnet (albeit with some nice out of sight parking structures for park and ride in place for people to utilize when they do get on the train).
As an example, I could do easily see myself hopping on my bike and riding from Southdowns or Rouzan out towards the Medical District on the CAPP trail that BREC is slowly building. Even taking that into account, you have walkable/bikeable infrastructure all over the Perkins Corridor from Stanford to Siegen south of I-10.

The only way this functions as they want it to, as a high-speed commuter train, is if they put in its own dedicated railing. If they are sharing the railways of the freight companies they'll have to give right of way to the freight trains, like Amtrak does now, negating the high-speed aspect and causing delays.
High speed rail is a misnomer. Really it should be called high capacity rail.
The high speed rail in the Northeast corridor essentially just means 3 sets of tracks, so that it limits how often passenger trains have to slow or halt for freight, that way the passenger trains can reach the 78 or 80mph or whatever that's consider high speed in the US.

I have a feeling this is going to be a single train going back and forth.

I'll go ahead and file this under "shite that will never happen" right next to the NOLA Riverfront Expressway.
