Well we only use it on special occasions. Super bowl wins, inaugurations, you know? In a good way.

There is a huge swath of people who are looking for oppression and will pounce on anything they can find. Liberals encourage this but it’s dangerous.

That's great man, fire people for accidental word use.

You'd have to be a complete dolt to accidentally use the word "coon" in place of "king." Or could it be a Freudian slip, maybe?

Youd have to be an even bigger dolt to use it on purpose on TV. I stand by my theory. She, and the previous guy, got tongue tied when saying it and mixed up junior and king and said "koong"

I can't believe that anyone would think that she would do that on purpose. It was an accident.

A funny accident but an accident.

You don't believe Jeanne Burns knows very well that the word "coon" is highly offensive? And to use in on television in connection with a civil rights icon???

"Coon" is a pretty far cry from the word "King."

Honestly, you people will defend just about anyone as long as you think they agree with your overall outlook.

I knew Jeanne slightly back at LSU. She was a girl-next-door smoke-show, wife-material. And yet she was relentlessly nice to everybody. One of the nicest people I ever met.

What's that got to do with the price of tea in China? Are you trying to say that the word "coon" is remotely even close to the word "king," especially for a professional veteran news person who is supposedly intelligent enough not to use such an offensive word?

That's part of my point, Burns is no "dolt" and knows better. I remember when she was with WAFB years ago with George Sells. Talk about rightwing conservative city.

No. I'll defend anyone that makes a mistake that isn't even remotely intentional.

And I'll defend anyone unfairly accused of racism because some people have to make every thing about race.

I'm sick of fricking idiots that take every little thing possible and make it racist. Its pathetic. MLK would be disappointed at how people act these days. The man is probably rolling over in his grave.

Tigersfan64/Gravy,

Where it matters most, it still is and will be a conservative city. Sorry, not interested in living in a southern Portland.

I think Whitney Bank customers need to ask a few more questions also.

I guarantee you she knows it’s offensive. That’s why it was just a mistake. Nothing intentional.

By themselves yes. But in context it’s quite plausible to make a mistake regardless of how offensive it is and how much one may “know better”

You have no idea what my outlook is, actually.

But you seem eager to be offended and ready to see racism at any turn. Enjoy your outrage. I’ll keep laughing at it like I am her error.
I sho is glad I gots the white privilege.

Or she had a Freudian slip revealing her true feelings. In that white bread conservative world she comes from, I have no doubt she heard Martin Luther King, Jr. referred to as "Martin Luther Coon" more than once in her life.

These people are Ideologically-Possessed. There is no room for human frailty anymore, no benefit-of-the-doubt, only Ideological rigidity and intolerance. Someone made a mistake we must destroy them for The Cause.
