The protracted and controversial search for a new director for the Baton Rouge Metro Airport left a bad impression on Derek Martin, who was one of two finalists for the job until accepting a position Aug. 16 to become executive director of the Erie Airport Authority.
quote:
"I was interviewing for five different positions and Baton Rouge kept postponing,” Martin says. “It came to the point where it didn’t seem like they wanted to make a decision. It’s sort of like when you go to buy a house—if you wait too long, someone can steal it out from under you. That is what we came down to.”
quote:
At that meeting, with just a single candidate, David Futch, still up for the job, the council could not agree to offer him the position—even though the Shreveport native was the top-ranked candidate for the position by the executive search firm and an airport selection committee. Some Metro Council members said they had questions about the qualifications on his resume, even though he has already been vetted and his supporters said his resume checks out.
quote:
Mayor Sharon Weston Broome has declined to get involved in the dispute and did not have any comment on the impasse.

Only Joe Alleva could do a worse job filling a vacancy

There are likely one of two reasons:
1. The council is angry at each other and will not agree on anything at all.
2. The races of the candidates were not correct.

$10 on number 2.
They sure didn’t need to verify the resumes and references of a few of the mayor’s hires.

Maybe Da Mayor can get 2 On Your Side to help find a candidate.

A quick search of Mr. David Austin Futch's (most qualified according to the search firm and last candidate still wanting the job) internet presence seems to indicate he was Director of Aeronautical Operations at LaGuardia.
Good thing our Metro Council decided that he's not qualified to operate our landing strip. Imagine the horrors he could bring.
On the other hand, his last competition, Mr. Derek Martin, who was Deputy General Manger of the entire Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and was also incredibly well qualified, bailed on Baton Rouge and took another job because they couldn't get their shite together and hire someone.
Baton Rouge Metro Council: The only elected government that, when presented with two guys who want to run our airport and have gobs of operations experience with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, ends up with neither.
God, this city is fricked.

Derek Martin:
David Futch:

When I looked at the video from the council meetings, I was dumbfounded,” Martin says. “I didn’t understand what this was. If you didn’t want to hire someone qualified why waste money hiring a search firm? Now, they’re saying now they’re going to consider the guy who is interim director, who applied for the job and didn’t even make the (short list). What is the game plan? I don’t know what they’re thinking.

So BTR has an airport commission, what do they do?
They also have an airport authority, who is made up of the Metro Council and the mayor/president.
NOLA has an aviation board, and while the are appointed by the mayor and council, I feel like they run everything.

When I'm exceedingly bored, I like to go to youtube and watch BR city council meetings. Makes me glad I don't live there.

Baton Rouge: 773,000 last year.
This seems like a no brainer.
What is the hold up? (Sarcasm)

How much in tax dollars have been wasted on this search thus far?

Is the search committee composed of a bunch of Sharon’s cousins?

That should be a sign that he shouldn't take the job. I wonder what the pay scale is that would pull him from LaGuardia to the Red Schtick.

Think of it like a coordinator at a power 5 football program taking a head coaching job at a mid-major football program. You take the head coaching job at the less prestigious school so you get experience with the head coach role and might have a chance in a few years when a head coaching job at a big-boy school opens up.

Race card even for this job

Maybe Clueless Joe was in on this search after all.
