didnt see this thread last year, but this story sickens me. I hope this dudes life is a living hell because thats where he deserves to be. As people have said, if that was my daughter this guy wouldnt see another day and i would be happy with the consequences because the justice system failed this family.

They released a bunch of them that were 17 when they committed their crimes.

We had three punks in a Houma who murdered Rick Whitener in cold blood. Look it up.

Two brothers and another POS. We convicted one brother who is away for life. One brother got out because he got manslaughter and served some time.

The one who was 17 is now out living and enjoying life that Rick was robbed of.

Disgusting they should have let all three be executed swiftly.

Just read up on it ( LINK if anyone is interested). And I agree with you.

How did he get second degree murder? Dude went to his house twice, and then was lying in wait and ambushed the dude, tied him up, drove out to the swamp, and killed him. In what world is that not premeditated, first degree murder?

There were three separate trials. The first brother the defense lawyers were able to get the jury to convict on manslaughter. No mandatory life.

The second brother was convicted of second degree murder. The defense wanted us to convict on manslaughter. A few of us on the jury said no way after hearing the evidence.

It is a travesty that the 17 year old was released. They executed the Mr Whitener and I wish we could have convicted him of first degree murder.

They all deserved to ride the lightning. Willie Rideau( cold blooded murderer who was released because he wrote newspaper articles) should have warmed the chair for them.

That's like minimum to be a normal human. Oh well, he didn't set anyone on fire?...yeah neither does 99.99998% of the rest of the population. Doesn't make killing someone less of a monster.

im torn because:

A) "Hundley was 15 at the time of the killing."
B) hes trying to reform and not leach off the system

but....

C) "convicted of second-degree murder in the 1997 slaying of 14-year-old Terry Elizabeth Pitre, whose body was found burned and badly beaten"

and finally:

quote:

Building on the high school diploma and college coursework he completed while incarcerated, he first earned his associate's degree in criminal justice from Baton Rouge Community College and then his bachelor's in sociology, with a concentration in criminal justice, from LSU.

quote:

Hundley, who now resides in New Orleans, plans to continue his education this fall at Loyola University at New Orleans, working toward a master's degree in criminology and justice.

So saying you hope someone dies and burns in hell is the same as actually killing and burning someone?

I’d rather him be executed.

How exactly does mandatory life end up with a guy being paroled? I thought life was life in Louisiana?

Pretty sure he comes from a well-off family, but he could also be taking out student loans or have some sort of scholarship from the school. I highly doubt the taxpayers are funding his education.

As for the overall story...

I get why people are up in arms about this issue, it's a very polarizing topic.

But this guy is trying to make the most of his second chance, granted to him by our Supreme Court. He didn't make the rules, but he's trying to make the most of his new opportunity.

He helped found the Louisiana Parole Project, which is a nonprofit that helps juvenile lifers and long-serving prisoners through the parole process and, if granted, their re-entry into society.

I'm pretty sure he was fortunate enough to have a family and support system that didn't completely abandon him while spending two decades in prison, and now he's trying to pay if forward.

One of the most infamous murderers of Christians in the Bible, Saul, was transformed by God, saved by grace and became one of first great evangelists of Christianity as Paul - wrote a lot of the New Testament. People can change, and Andrew Hundley is trying.

did Saul beat and burn a 14 year old?

Look I appreciate where you are coming from, but its hard to not feel anger and resentment these days for this story...I wonder how the victims family feels about it.

As for me, I'll be interested to see what he does with this second chance....assuming you wouldnt have any opposition to him joining you and the kids and the New Orleans Lawn Tennis club then???

How disappointing.
I remember this thread, I was hoping it had been update because the victims family had finally received proper justice.
