these guys put ALOT of work into this. ALOT of money up front. and then they still have to divide the fees with referring attorneys, etc. also, no guarantee they would get anything from it.

Now we know why Slippy is shopping for a new land rover. He must have represented a couple of shrimpers from Dulac, otherwise he would have been looking at nice cars.

Funny thing about the Lafayette firm is it's only 10 guys. They're about to have a hellova party.

In about three years half of them will be in rehab and half of them will be in bankruptcy. One thing I've learned about lawyers is most of them can't handle money or their personal lives.

Blame the BP lawyers who drafted the settlement, or the board of directors who approved it.

Every settlement is framed by the legal climate of its location. Surely some of the blame lies on our legal system but it is also shared by the individuals who take advantage of it. Lots of people had their livelihoods and property (or even their lives) destroyed because of the spill, and the legal system exists to ensure that those individuals are fairly compensated for their losses. But there are also plenty of people who claimed above and beyond what their actual hardship was.

Those individuals and the lawyers that facilitate them are the ones that drive up costs and drive out jobs at the expense of everyone else. Just because they legally got away with it doesn't make it right. They are no better than Riverside Towing legally fricking over people just because they have the chance.

FIFY.

Lulz. You sound like eerily similar those jaded schleps getting paid $150/hour from State Farm.

Should there have been no law suits at all? Everyone is principled about litigation until they have been wronged. Then they get on the OT and ask for the best lawyer.

Straw man fallacy. I said that people who fraudulently claim over and above the hardship that they endured because of the spill are the ones to blame. Of course there should be compensation for people who were adversely affected by the negligence of the rig owner.

Do you think there were more legit claims or "fraudulent" claims?

All: God save your Majesty!
Cade: I thank you, good people-there shall be no money; all shall eat and drink my score, and I will apparel them all in one livery, that they may agree like brothers, and worship me their lord.
Dick: The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers.
Cade: Nay, that I mean to do.
Henry the Sixth, Part 2 Act 4, scene 2, 71-78

This is how simpletons think, but I have accepted it. Lawyers must deal, from time to time, with people who do not understand our role and the role of evil in the universe. Remember what George Burns said...

"There are always two sides - at least - to every argument, and without such, totalitarianism and ignorance would reign throughout the world."

It depends on your definition of shite ton. They're not making anywhere near $87m.

And what exactly did these guys build or create or improve?

It's just as bad as the welfare culture of another group of non-contributing people in this country.
