The FBI has confirmed the missing boy found in Northern Kentucky is not Timmothy Pitzen, an Illinois boy who has been missing since 2011. The teen had claimed he escaped two kidnappers who held him hostage for seven years.

Authorities say a local investigation continues into the person's true identity. The boy, who is around 14 years old, was found on the west side of Newport, Kentucky, across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, on Wednesday afternoon.

In his defense- maybe he was told that's who he was.

Brian Michael Rini has been identified as the 24-year-old man who claimed to be Timmothy Pitzen on April 3. On April 4, the FBI confirmed that his DNA did not match with that of Pitzen, who disappeared in 2011 and hasn’t been seen since.

Rini’s motives are currently unclear. However, Newport police have confirmed that they are looking into his claim of being kidnapped, while also acknowledging that he has given false statements in the past 24 hours, including that he claimed to be 14 years old.

OT said that there's no way that a 14 year old boy would have known how to fake this.

I feel sorry for the Pitzen family.

That much false hope has to be absolutely crushing.

It could be a grown adult trying to pass himself off as a 14-year old kid

I didn't see anything about him doing this all on his own, I would think it's more likely than not that he had an adult telling him what to do

I don't get what the end game was? What would he, or whoever had him do this, get out of it?

Same here. For some reason I can smell hoaxes from a mile away.

It just didn’t add up or make sense and the story was fantastical. He escaped from a hotel where he was staying with his two bodybuilder captors? Really?
